Residents living nearby heard a ‘loud bang’\"Summerfield<\/p>\n

An investigation has been launched into an explosion in a Derbyshire street which caused extensive damage inside a detached house and forced neighbours to evacuate.<\/p>\n

Emergency services, including police <\/a>and fire, were called to the incident in Summerfield Road, Boythorpe, at about 2.50pm on Friday (January 30). Police officers discovered a suspected cannabis grow inside the property.<\/p>\n

A 32-year-old man has been taken to hospital to be treated for burns that are thought to be life-changing.<\/p>\n

People inside two homes either side of the property were evacuated as a precaution but were not injured and have since been allowed to return to their properties.<\/p>\n

Work has been undertaken to make the scene safe and secure.<\/p>\n

A joint investigation between Derbyshire police<\/a> and Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service has been launched into the incident and the scene was cordoned off on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

A Derbyshire police<\/a> statement said: “Residents living nearby may have heard a loud bang yesterday afternoon but we would like to reassure members of the public that there is no wider threat or danger to the public.<\/p>\n

“We are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to please come forward.<\/p>\n

“Of particular interest is anyone with CCTV, Ring doorbell or dash cam footage which covers the scene and has not already spoken to officers.”<\/p>\n
