Tributes have poured in from the world of showbiz and politics for Catherine O\u2019Hara, with the Canadian prime minister, Mark Carney, and Schitt\u2019s Creek\u2019s co-creator Dan Levy mourning the loss of a \u201clegend\u201d after the actor died at the age of 71.<\/p>\n
O\u2019Hara, who won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role in the TV comedy series, died on Friday at her home in Los Angeles after a brief illness, according to her agency CAA.<\/p>\n
The Canadian-American actor was also known for roles in Home Alone and the Beetlejuice films. In a post on Instagram, Levy said he would \u201ccherish every funny memory I was fortunate enough to make with her\u201d.<\/p>\n
He added: \u201cWhat a gift to have gotten to dance in the warm glow of Catherine O\u2019Hara\u2019s brilliance for all those years.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving spent over 50 years collaborating with my dad [Schitt\u2019s Creek co-star and co-creator Eugene Levy], Catherine was extended family before she ever played my family.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s hard to imagine a world without her in it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Richard E Grant, who starred in 2006\u2019s Penelope with O\u2019Hara, called the actor\u2019s death an \u201cincalculable loss\u201d. In a post on Instagram, he said: \u201cShe & her husband Bo were the first people we called when we were in LA, stayed with us in the Cotswolds, shared dinners in London & never stopped yakking & laughing.\u201d<\/p>\n
In 2024, O\u2019Hara reprised her role as Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, having starred in the first film in 1988. Her co-star Michael Keaton said: \u201cWe go back before the first Beetlejuice. She\u2019s been my pretend wife, my pretend nemesis and my real life, true friend. This one hurts. Man am I gonna miss her.\u201d<\/p>\n
Alec Baldwin, who also starred in the original film, described O\u2019Hara as \u201cone of the greatest comic talents in the movie business\u201d who possessed \u201ca quality that was all her own\u201d.<\/p>\n
Seth Rogen, her co-star in the Apple TV comedy series The Studio \u2013 for which O\u2019Hara received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations \u2013 called the news of her passing \u201cdevastating\u201d.<\/p>\n

He said in a post on Instagram: \u201cI told O\u2019Hara when I first met her I thought she was the funniest person I\u2019d ever had the pleasure of watching on screen.<\/p>\n
\u201cHome Alone was the movie that made me want to make movies. Getting to work with her was a true honour.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe was hysterical, kind, intuitive, generous \u2026 She made me want to make our show good enough to be worthy of her presence in it. This is just devastating. We\u2019re all lucky we got to live in a world with her in it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Canadian actor and comedian Mike Myers described her death as \u201ca very sad day for comedy and for Canada\u201d, describing O\u2019Hara as \u201cone of the greatest comedy artists in history\u201d.<\/p>\n

The former Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau called her a \u201cbeloved Canadian icon\u201d, while the country\u2019s current leader, Mark Carney, said Canada had \u201clost a legend\u201d.<\/p>\n
In a statement, Carney said he joined all Canadians in mourning, adding: \u201cOver five decades of work, Catherine earned her place in the canon of Canadian comedy.\u201d<\/p>\n
O\u2019Hara is survived by her husband, Bo Welch, and sons Matthew and Luke.
