data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"website\" data-node-id=\"7.1\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>, even a brisk 10-minute daily walk has lots of health benefits, with brisk being about 3 miles an hour \u2013 \u2018You can tell you&#8217;re walking briskly if you can still talk but cannot sing the words to a song,\u2019 it advises.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"11\" class=\"css-16gxnpx emevuu60\">Power walking, however, is a way to one-up that. \u2018While you might be a speedy walker, you are only power walking if your pace is between 4 and 5.5 miles per hour,\u2019 says<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vitality.co.uk\/health-insurance\/\" For instance, a Dutch <a href=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1111\/j.1467-9280.2009.02342.x\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1111\/j.1467-9280.2009.02342.x\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"study\" data-node-id=\"31.1\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">study<\/a>, which tested participants\u2019 reaction times while stepping backwards, forwards or sideways, found that those walking backwards had the fastest reaction times.<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"32\" class=\"css-16gxnpx emevuu60\">Skinner only recommends backwards walking if you\u2019ve got a safe and comfortable space or route to do it \u2013 \u2018away from traffic or other potential obstacles\u2019, but says it can be a good option for those who find walking to be tough on their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/running\/a37903769\/knee-pain-running\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/running\/a37903769\/knee-pain-running\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"knees\" data-node-id=\"32.1\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">knees<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"33\" class=\"css-16gxnpx emevuu60\">\u2018To perform this exercise safely, make sure you&#8217;re familiar with your route, and that you walk at a reasonable pace,\u2019 she adds.<\/p>\n<p>5. Walking yoga<\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"35\" class=\"css-16gxnpx emevuu60\">Walking is great, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/yoga\/g26338484\/best-yoga-studios-in-london\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-vars-ga-outbound-link=\"https:\/\/www.womenshealthmag.com\/uk\/fitness\/yoga\/g26338484\/best-yoga-studios-in-london\/\" data-vars-ga-ux-element=\"Hyperlink\" data-vars-ga-call-to-action=\"yoga\" data-node-id=\"35.1\" class=\"body-link css-7bauu1 emevuu60\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">yoga<\/a> is great \u2013 so why not combine the two? \u2018In the yoga\/mindfulness tradition, there are many forms of movement integrated with breath and mindful awareness, and walking can also fall within this category,\u2019 says Skinner. <\/p>\n<p data-journey-content=\"true\" data-node-id=\"36\" class=\"css-16gxnpx emevuu60\">\u2018Walking yoga might incorporate an intentional walk where the individual focuses on the present moment, and the integration of the mind, body and breath.
