Gastropubs are for when scampi fries and salted peanuts with your pint\u00a0just aren\u2019t enough to fill you up.\u00a0The restaurant\/pub\u00a0hybrids have all the cosy vibes of a traditional boozer\u00a0alongside\u00a0spectacular food menus that rival that finest restaurants in the country<\/a>. And since 2009, the\u00a0Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs has called upon the expertise of\u00a0industry experts, chefs and food writers to determine which UK gastropubs stand out above the rest. Now, it\u2019s revealed its 2026 edition.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In a ceremony on Monday January 26, the title of the best gastropub in the UK for 2026\u00a0went\u00a0to…\u00a0The Devonshire in London<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The \u2018Dev\u2019\u00a0in Soho first opened its doors in 2023 and quickly became the place to be spotted if you\u2019re anyone who\u2019s anyone (the likes of Margot Robbie and Nigella Lawson have\u00a0stopped by\u00a0there). Top 50 called it a \u2018roaring success\u2019 and described it simply as somewhere that \u2018serves up premium quality, homemade food, focusing on the best of British produce\u2019.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Its\u00a0main pub on the ground floor\u00a0serves\u00a0what\u2019s widely regarded as London\u2019s best Guinness and upstairs is the restaurant and grill rooms led by beef connoisseur Charlie Carroll and former Fat Duck chef Ashley Palmer-Watts. There you\u2019ll find dishes like\u00a0Scottish beef that has been dry-aged and butchered on site, creel-caught langoustines from Oban, lobster and hand-dived scallops from Devon.<\/p>\n

Though\u00a0the Devonshire is one of the hardest places in the city to get a table, it\u2019s not absurdly unaffordable. You can tuck into a two-course set menu for just \u00a325 or three-courses for \u00a329.<\/p>\n

The London boozer pushed three-time winner The Unruly Pig<\/a> in Suffolk\u00a0down to second place. Top 50\u00a0described the Unruly Pig as a \u2018winsome and warm\u2019 pub that serves \u2018filling and well-crafted pub food in an environment that reflects the personalities of the people behind the stunning venue\u2019. It offers a three course \u00a335 lunch set menu featuring dishes like smoked cod\u2019s roe on focaccia, confit pork belly and sticky date pudding.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Third place went to another London gastropub,\u00a0The Red Lion and Sun<\/a> in Highgate, while fourth prize was handed to Gloucestershire\u2019s The Woolpack Inn and fifth place was claimed by The Star Inn in North Yorkshire.\u00a0<\/p>\n
