Record executive Clive Davis has confirmed the long-rumored casting of Meryl Streep<\/a> as Joni Mitchell<\/a> in\u00a0Cameron Crowe<\/a>\u2019s upcoming biopic.<\/p>\n

As reported by\u00a0Rolling Stone<\/a>, Davis shared the news during his annual pre-Grammys party at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles on Saturday. Rumors of Streep playing an older version of Mitchell in the film first surfaced in 2024.<\/p>\n

Anya Taylor-Joy was later rumored to be playing a younger Mitchell, though that casting has yet to be confirmed.<\/p>\n

When reached by\u00a0Rolling Stone for comment, Crowe pointed to the magazine toward Davis\u2019 announcement.<\/p>\n

A longtime fan and friend of Mitchell,\u00a0Crowe was originally revealed to have been\u00a0secretly working on the film in 2023<\/a>. More recently, the filmmaker told Stephen Colbert in October 2025 that he had been working on the biopic<\/a> with the legendary singer-songwriter\u00a0for about four years.<\/p>\n

Describing Mitchell as a \u201cpack rat,\u201d\u00a0Crowe continued, \u201cShe\u2019s kept all of her costumes, all of her clothes, all of her instruments. She\u2019s even still the landlady of her famous house in Laurel Canyon. So this is a really personal, wonderful look at her life and music.\u201d<\/p>\n
