{"id":406172,"date":"2026-02-03T20:06:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T20:06:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/406172\/"},"modified":"2026-02-03T20:06:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T20:06:07","slug":"rhys-edwards-welsh-featherweight-to-fight-gully-powar-for-british-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/406172\/","title":{"rendered":"Rhys Edwards: Welsh featherweight to fight Gully Powar for British title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Welshman Rhys Edwards will fight for a British title when he faces Gully Powar on the undercard of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/boxing\/articles\/cn8jk2y22meo\" class=\"ssrcss-ckhpdl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lauren Price&#8217;s world title defence<\/a> against Stephanie Aquino on 4 April in Cardiff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Edwards will challenge for the featherweight title at the Utilita Arena, which will be shown live on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer from 20:00 GMT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Edwards, 25, says the opportunity is a career culmination for him.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Winning the British title has been a dream since I first started boxing,&#8221; he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I&#8217;ve worked my whole career for this moment, and now it&#8217;s time to make it count. To get this opportunity at home in Wales is a special feeling.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Edwards has just one defeat on his record, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/sport\/boxing\/articles\/cy894p2v19po\" class=\"ssrcss-ckhpdl-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">coming against Peter McGrail<\/a> in 2024, but bounced back with a routine win over Thomas Essomba last June.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Wolverhampton fighter Powar, 23, is still making a name for himself in the division after catching the eye while competing in the WBC Boxing Grand Prix last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Powar has 13 wins and one loss in his career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;This is my time to shine.
