‘very serious incident’ on its Leicester city centre campus<\/a> on Tuesday evening (February 3).<\/p>\nA cordon was set up close to the crossing and section of the pavement outside of The Innovation Centre, which is part of DMU, in Oxford Street from before 6pm.<\/p>\n
Leicestershire Police confirmed the road had been closed at the junction with Grange Lane while officers “deal with an incident” but are yet to reveal the nature of the events.<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for DMU said: \u201cWe are aware of a very serious incident on our campus this evening. We are working with Leicestershire Police as they launch an immediate investigation.<\/p>\n
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by what has happened. We are offering direct support to students and staff who witnessed the incident.\u201d<\/p>\n
When Leicestershire Live attended the scene earlier on Tuesday evening there were around four police cars at the scene, alongside seven Leicestershire Police officers.<\/p>\n
Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service were also present, with it also reported that there were DMU security officers in the area.<\/p>\n
In a brief statement issued just before 6pm, Leicestershire Police said Oxford Street – at the junction of Grange Lane – had been closed “while we deal with a police incident”.<\/p>\n
“Please avoid the area,” a force spokesman said.<\/p>\n
