Jeremy Jacquet\u2019s first game back for Rennes didn\u2019t get off to the best of starts after the defender completed his transfer to Liverpool.<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old was back in France on Tuesday after completing his medical and signing for the Reds on deadline day<\/a>. Having agreed to a five-year deal which will see him through to the summer of 2031 at Anfield, Jacquet<\/a> will spend the remainder of the season with Rennes before officially becoming a Liverpool player later this year.<\/p>\n

After arriving back in his homeland, the defender was thrown straight into the line-up by Rennes boss Babib Beye<\/a> for the club\u2019s last-16 tie against Marseille in the Coupe de France.<\/p>\n

The game didn\u2019t start well for the visitors at the Stade Velodrome, where Jacquet\u2019s new club recorded a comfortable 3-0 win just a couple of weeks ago<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Quentin Merlin was caught spending too much time on the ball inside his own penalty area, allowing Timothy Weah to slide in and win it back before laying it on a plate for Amine Gouiri to put Marseille ahead within the first two minutes of the game.<\/p>\n

It was not the start Jacquet would have been looking for on his return to his boyhood club, with Rennes looking to bounce back after suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat to Monaco at the weekend.<\/p>\n

That result put a dent in Rennes\u2019 European hopes, with the club currently sitting sixth in Ligue 1, and now they face a fight to stay in the cup.<\/p>\n

Jacquet will be aiming to leave his hometown club on a high this season. The center-back came through the ranks at Rennes, and will become its record sale when he completes his move to Anfield, overtaking Jeremy Doku\u2019s move to Manchester City.<\/p>\n
