Tottenham captain Cristian Romero will leave the club in the summer to join a La Liga team, according to reliable Argentine journalist Gaston Edul<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Spurs<\/a> have had a poor season after winning the Europa League<\/a> last year, and currently sit 14th in the Premier League<\/a> after 24 games, just nine points above the relegation zone, while they have also been eliminated from the FA Cup and Carabao Cup already.<\/p>\n

The club brought in Conor Gallagher and Souza during the January transfer window to bolster their squad, but with a host of injuries currently, Romero has been publicly vocal about his opinion on the owners, and now he looks set for a big exit in the summer.<\/p>\n

Cristian Romero Will Leave Tottenham<\/p>\n

Romero, who has been described as ‘world-class’<\/a>, signed a new long-term contract with the north London club last summer, bringing an end to speculation that he could leave to join Atletico Madrid<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But another poor season has now seen the club captain make the decision that he will be on the move at the end of the campaign, with a move to the Spanish league at the top of his agenda amid interest from several clubs.<\/p>\n

“Cristian Cuti Romero has interest from La Liga in Spain and another league as well,” Edul wrote on his X account.<\/p>\n

“He had already had interest in the previous transfer window, and they came very close to making a formal offer. He is going to leave Tottenham in the next June transfer window.<\/p>\n

Tottenham Have Let Romero Down<\/p>\n

Romero has been one of the best players at the club since he arrived from Juventus back in 2022, and while he hasn’t always been the most reliable on the pitch due to disciplinary issues, he’s also showed that he cares.<\/p>\n

His recent public comments against the board after the defeat to Bournemouth<\/a>, and then labelling the current situation as ‘disgraceful’<\/a> after the board brought in no new players late in the window despite injuries prove that he wants to succeed.<\/p>\n

But as a World Cup winner who is in the prime years of his career, he wants to play at the top level, and Tottenham can’t give it to him. An exit makes sense for all parties, but it’s a huge blow for Spurs and replacing him will be a nightmare.<\/p>\n
