Images released by Bolton council show back streets inundated with ‘litter and dangerous waste’<\/p>\n

An area of Bolton blighted by \u2018litter and dangerous waste\u2019 being dumped on the streets has had a massive clean-up.<\/p>\n

Volunteers and Bolton<\/a> council staff worked together to clean up an area of Great Lever during a community environmental action day.<\/p>\n

An image released by the council showed the extent of the dumped waste with one back alley covered with dozens of waste bags, a broken wooden pallet and rubble bags spilling out with rubbish.<\/p>\n

During the event, Bolton borough litter pickers cleared the area, and the council cleaned the streets, speaking to residents to raise awareness. Bolton at Home and Onward Homes also took part and provided an additional skip to help with the clear up.<\/p>\n

Coun Richard Silvester, cabinet member for climate change and environment, said: \u201cThe discarding of litter and dangerous waste onto our streets and green spaces is not only unsightly but also irresponsible and thoroughly disrespectful.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s always wonderful to see members of the community take pride in our borough and work together to make a difference.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe care of volunteers and the work of council staff help to greatly improve our local area, and ensures it remains a good place to live, visit, and work.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bolton Council assisted in moving rubbish and cleaning the streets<\/p>\n

Volunteers across the borough regularly get involved in their community and fill green volunteer bags with litter. Individuals, schools or local community group wishing to organise a voluntary litter picking event in your area are being asked to contact<\/p>\n

Bolton council, who can support by lending litter picking equipment and bags. The council can also arrange for collection of the litter after the event.<\/p>\n

Those considering a larger community clear up with larger items of waste needing to be removed can also contact the council.<\/p>\n
