{"id":4092,"date":"2025-07-17T00:22:13","date_gmt":"2025-07-17T00:22:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/4092\/"},"modified":"2025-07-17T00:22:13","modified_gmt":"2025-07-17T00:22:13","slug":"fake-medical-practitioner-jailed-for-causing-harm-during-illegal-circumcisions-in-the-west-midlands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/4092\/","title":{"rendered":"Fake medical practitioner jailed for causing harm during illegal circumcisions in the West Midlands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man from Essex who carried out illegal and unsafe male circumcisions, leaving his victims with lasting harm, has been jailed today for nine years.<\/p>\n<p>Mohammed Alazawi, aged 54, from Essex, carried out a number of <a href=\"https:\/\/plus.expressandstar.com\/news\/2025\/05\/09\/this-is-the-face-of-the-fake-doctor-who-carried-out-illegal-circumcisions-including-in-the-west-midlands\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">illegal male circumcisions<\/a> between October 2016 and January 2022 on baby boys and older male children.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cps.gov.uk\/crown-prosecution-service\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Crown Prosecution Service<\/a> said that the defendant was able to carry out the illegal and unsafe procedures due to non-therapeutic male circumcisions being &#8216;unregulated&#8217; and not required to be carried out by a medical practitioner.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/4cf0eee2-583c-4d75-b37b-03a462d4aa38.jpg\"   alt=\"Mohammed Alazawi has been jailed for nine years after carrying out dozens of illegal and unsafe circumcisions\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"w-full max-w-none\"\/>Mohammed Alazawi has been jailed for nine years after carrying out dozens of illegal and unsafe circumcisions<\/p>\n<p>In some instances, Alazawi had pretended to be a doctor, with parents consenting to the circumcisions being carried out on their children.<\/p>\n<p>The lie changed the procedures from ordinary circumcisions, which would have been safe and sanitary, to a procedure which was inherently unsafe or dangerous and therefore unlawful.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The offences came to light following an incident in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressandstar.com\/news\/local-hubs\/birmingham\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Birmingham<\/a>, where one victim suffered an infection, and the matter was reported to West Midlands Police.<\/p>\n<p>On May 8, Alazawi was convicted of 40 offences, which included multiple counts of fraud, wounding with intent, administering and supplying prescription-only medicines, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He also pleaded guilty to 20 offences, but was found guilty of 20 further offences following a trial, and he was sentenced to nine years&#8217;
