Canelo Alvarez<\/a> has revealed his initial feelings on Terence Crawford<\/a> retiring from the sport.<\/p>\n

Crawford cemented his status as one of the greatest boxers in modern history when he defeated Canelo<\/a> at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas back in September.<\/p>\n

The victory came after \u2018Bud\u2019 stepped up two weight divisions to 168lbs for the clash, and despite being the underdog, he put in a stellar performance to win by unanimous decision and become undisputed super-middleweight champion.<\/p>\n

Canelo had hoped to reclaim his belts, stating his intention after the fight to seek an immediate rematch with his rival, but those plans went up in smoke when Crawford announced his retirement in December, resulting in the super-middleweight titles fragmenting and ending up in the possession of several different fighters.<\/a><\/p>\n

Canelo is set to return to action in September, with some believing he may have targeted those new champions and look to once again hold world honours at 168lbs.<\/p>\n

It seems the Mexican superstar hasn\u2019t given up hope of a rematch with \u2018Bud\u2019 though, as during a preview for an upcoming appearance on the Mr Verzace Podcast<\/a>, Canelo was asked if he was upset when Crawford announced his retirement, and he made his view perfectly clear.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to run it back.\u201d<\/p>\n
