However, the movie must have a killer script to go with the allure of working with in-demand horror creator Flanagan, because it keeps adding big stars.<\/p>\n<p>Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix) was just announced as the latest addition, following <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/pirates-of-the-caribbean-reboot-disney-josh-damaro-margot-robbie-2000718094\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">yesterday\u2019s news that Chiwetel Ejiofor<\/a> (Doctor Strange) was also cast. They join <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/scarlett-johansson-will-star-in-mike-flanagans-exorcist-reboot-2000691039\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Scarlett Johansson<\/a> and Diane Lane\u2014making for the combined power of four Oscar nominees\u2014plus tween actor Jacobi Jupe, currently on screens breaking hearts as Shakespeare\u2019s tragic son in Hamnet.<\/p>\n<p>The Exorcist will film in New York City and is scheduled to hit theaters March 12, 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Flanagan also has <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/mike-flanagan-to-adapt-stephen-kings-carrie-as-an-8-episode-miniseries-2000514457\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Prime Video\u2019s Carrie series<\/a> coming soon\u2014there\u2019s no release date yet\u2014which features a cast sprinkled with faces familiar to fans of his Netflix horror series, including The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher.<\/p>\n<p>Flanagan\u2019s most recent big-screen release, <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/the-life-of-chuck-may-change-the-way-you-look-at-movies-and-yourself-2000603621\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2025\u2019s The Life of Chuck<\/a>, was a departure from his usual horror path, though it was based on a tale by frequent Flanagan collaborator Stephen King.<\/p>\n<p>Back in 2024, <a href=\"https:\/\/gizmodo.com\/mike-flanagan-exorcist-stephen-king-2000495514\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Flanagan teased that<\/a> he viewed The Exorcist as an opportunity to make the scariest movie he could dream up\u2014and with his track record so far of scaring the hell out of people and this caliber of cast to back him up, we\u2019re looking forward to some sleepless nights ahead.<\/p>\n<p>Want more io9 news?
