\n\tEXCLUSIVE: Charli xcx<\/a> will be possessed by a violent, tortured spirit in Takashi Miike<\/a>\u2018s anticipated untitled slasher-horror film, which is due to start filming in Japan next month, we can reveal.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Brat star is joined in the movie by Milly Alcock (Supergirl), Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), actres-model-singer Kiko Mizuhara (Attack on Titan) and Show Kasamatsu (Tokyo Vice).<\/p>\n

\n\tKnown as Untitled Kyoto, the film will follow three best friends who meet up in Kyoto to rekindle their lifelong friendships.\u00a0What is intended to be a carefree girls trip devolves into a nightmare, unfolding when Katie (Charli xcx) becomes possessed by a violent, tortured spirit (Mizuhara) in the Japanese horror tradition.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Veterans and CAA Media Finance are launching international sales on the buzzy package ahead of next week\u2019s European Film Market in Berlin, where horror movies clearly are the order of the day.<\/p>\n

\n\tRoss Evans and Yumiko Aoyagi wrote the script, which is inspired from an original idea of Charli and Miike. Miike\u2019s longtime producing partner Misako Saka will produce on his behalf.<\/p>\n

\n\tCharli xcx is producing through her studio365 banner, whose The Moment<\/a> is in theatrical release via A24 and just racked up the studio\u2019s third-biggest limited release<\/a>. Also producing are Good World Productions, Yumiko Aoyagi Productions and OLM. Alex Peace-Power will executive-produce.<\/p>\n

\n\tAmong Miike\u2019s 59 features, notable credits include the cult classics\u00a0Audition (1999);\u00a0Ichi the Killer\u00a0(2001);\u00a013 Assassins\u00a0(2010), which premiered in Venice Film Festival; and\u00a0Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai\u00a0(2011), which\u00a0premiered at Cannes. The filmmaker is renowned for his movies\u2019 singular violence and transgressive content, often exploring horror, samurai and yakuza genres.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tRecently shot for Charli xcx are Daniel Goldhaber\u2019s remake of the 1978 cult horror film\u00a0Faces of Death, Greg Araki\u2019s erotic thriller\u00a0I Want Your Sex, Cathy Yan\u2019s\u00a0The Gallerist, Julia Jackman\u2019s period fantasy\u00a0100 Nights of Hero, Romain Gavras\u2019 satirical action\u00a0Sacrifice and Pete Ohs\u2019 intimate drama\u00a0Erupcja.<\/p>\n

\n\tHouse of the Dragon star Alcock, who has DC\u2019s Supergirl<\/a> upcoming, recently wrapped filming the lead role in Daina Oniunas-Pusi\u0107\u2019s dark comedy\u00a0Thumb. The Walking Dead star Reedus soon will reprise his role in the upcoming third installment of The Boondock Saints. Mizuhara recently wrapped production on Eugene Kotlyarenko\u2019s\u00a0Vintage Violence, starring opposite Cole Sprouse. Kasamatsu, known for HBO Max\u2019s Tokyo Vice and acclaimed drama The Narrow Road to the Deep North<\/a>, soon will make his English-language feature debut opposite Cynthia Erivo and Isabel May in Takashi Doscher\u2019s Liongsate thriller Karoshi.<\/p>\n

\n\tRoss Evans is best known for his black comedy How to Save a Marriage that sold to Sony with Rob Pattinson attached after a seven-figure multi-studio bidding war. He\u2019s due to make his directorial debut this summer, helming Lakeith Stanfield and Keke Palmer in\u00a0DeNovo. Yumiko Aoyagi is one of Japan\u2019s best known writer-producers, with credits including DCU: Deep Crime Unit, a Japan-Hollywood co-production and one of the country\u2019s highest-rated shows; remaking Emmy winner\u00a0Orphan Black\u00a0in Japan\u2019s first remake of a BBC series; and\u00a0Lonelygirl15, which was a hit for YouTube.<\/p>\n
