West Midlands Police issued a statement regarding their position on the removal of flags from lampposts.<\/p>\n

After British flags went up in Moseley<\/a> this week, councillors confirmed action would be taken and they would be removed<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Councillor Izzy Knowles previously said:<\/a> “Philip (Mills) and I have had confirmation from both the council and the police today that they are supporting each other to facilitate the removal of the flags put up without permission on lamp posts in Moseley Village on Wednesday evening.”<\/p>\n

West Midlands Police reiterated their stance on the issue and said the removal is ‘the responsibility of the local authority’ but that they would ‘provide a presence’ while flags were removed.<\/p>\n

Assistant Chief Constable Andy Parsons said: \u201cWhile local authorities are removing flags from street furniture, we will provide a presence to ensure they are able to do this without issue.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision on the removal of flags from public street furniture is a matter for the local authority or relevant highways agency, our role is to ensure they are able to carry out their work without incident, intimidation or breach of the peace.<\/p>\n

\u201cWest Midlands Police<\/a> are not removing any flags, this is the responsibility of the local authority.<\/p>\n

“We are however committed to supporting community cohesion and are therefore working constructively with local authorities while always policing without fear or favour.\u201d<\/p>\n
