Habib Beye has confirmed Jeremy Jacquet has suffered a serious injury<\/p>\n

Rennes head coach Habib Beye confirmed Jeremy Jacquet suffered a \u201cserious\u201d injury in the club\u2019s 3-1 loss to Lens on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The defender, who this week sealed a \u00a360 million ($82M) switch to Anfield<\/a>, was replaced in the 69th minute after sustaining an injury to his left shoulder. Jacquet <\/a>seemed in significant pain and was replaced by Mahamadou Nagida.<\/p>\n

Jacquet had to support his left arm and was assisted off the pitch by a member of the Rennes medical team. There\u2019s a bitter irony that the injury occurred just five days after he completed his Liverpool medical<\/a> before agreeing his summer move to the Reds.<\/p>\n

Speaking after Saturday\u2019s game<\/a>, Beye said: \u201cFor Jeremy, it’s his shoulder, and for Abdelhamid [Ait Boudlal, the other Rennes player injured] it’s muscular.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’ll have time to see, but it’s definitely quite serious for both of them,\u201d added the former Newcastle United and Aston Villa defender.<\/p>\n

While Liverpool will be concerned about the long-term repercussions of the injury, it\u2019s Rennes who will have the most immediate concern.<\/p>\n

Jeremy Jacquet picked up an injury in Rennes’ defeat to Lens<\/p>\n

Jacquet has established himself as a vital member of the team, missing just two league matches this season, both due to suspension.<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old underlined the importance of helping Rennes to finish the season strongly, in a post released after his transfer to Liverpool was confirmed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am honored to sign for Liverpool, one of the greatest football institutions in the world,\u201d Jacquet said via a statement<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was also very important for me to finish my time in red and black on a high, at my boyhood club, the club of my heart.<\/p>\n

\u201cI’m approaching this second half of the season with the desire to experience some great moments with my team-mates and the fans.\u201d<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s result was a blow to Rennes\u2019 hopes of securing a European place, while Lens moved above Paris Saint-Germain<\/a> and into first place with another three points.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Liverpool will hope for a positive update on Jacquet in the coming days.<\/p>\n

And it seems the misfortune that has inflicted the Reds\u2019 defenders this season even extends to future squad members.<\/p>\n

Currently, only four of Arne Slot\u2019s eight defenders are fit ahead of the clash with Manchester City this weekend.
