Michelle Keegan<\/a> is facing one of the toughest dilemmas of her career, with sources claiming a rumoured new role overseas could put strain on her family life. The Brassic<\/a> actress flew out to the US last week on a work trip, just days after returning from a sun-soaked break in Abu Dhabi with her husband Mark Wright<\/a> and their baby daughter Palma.<\/p>\n

Sharing a handful of snaps from her Stateside visit online, the star seemed to be living her best life, writing, \u201cA work trip never looked so good.\u201d And according to sources, the actress has every right to be in a great mood, with rumours circulating that she\u2019s in line to star in an adaptation of Reese Witherspoon<\/a> and Harlan Coben\u2019s crime thriller Gone Before Goodbye. But should her dreams of cracking America come true, our source claims Michelle and Mark will have to sit down and have \u201ca serious conversation\u201d about what\u2019s next for their family.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s really excited – she\u2019s always been determined to make it big in America. That hasn\u2019t changed since having Palma.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe doesn\u2019t just want to be known in the UK. But Michelle knows there\u2019s a lot of competition and is conscious about getting older, so feels it\u2019s a case of \u2018now or never\u2019. If she does land this job, now would be the perfect time to move to LA, before Palma gets a bit older and before they have another child.\u201d<\/p>\n

While Michelle\u2019s career is going from strength to strength, it\u2019s thought motherhood and family ties in the UK could make a US move harder to navigate. \u201cThe problem is, Mark doesn\u2019t want to leave Essex,\u201d claims our source. \u201cHe\u2019s put all his time and energy into their house and it\u2019s just around the corner from his family. It would be a really tough call for him. He\u2019s tried it out in America, and it didn\u2019t work out. Friends don\u2019t think he\u2019d be up for the move \u2013 but Michelle would go in a heartbeat.\u201d<\/p>\n

Michelle, 38, has long been rumoured to want to make a name for herself in the US, especially since starring in the successful Netflix<\/a> drama Fool Me Once, which is another Harlan Coben adaptation. In 2023, sources claimed Michelle had been \u201cinundated with interest from Hollywood TV and film executives wanting to meet with her and discuss opportunities\u201d, and there were hopes she could be \u201cthe next Margot Robbie\u201d.<\/p>\n

Even as far back as 2016, the ambitious actress fuelled speculation that a move to Hollywood could be on the cards after hiring an American agent and revealing some \u201csecret meetings\u201d during a trip to LA. Plus stuntman Paul Pieterse \u2013 who worked with Michelle on hit BBC<\/a> drama Our Girl and alongside A-list stars including Charlize Theron and Javier Bardem \u2013 said the mum-of-one has exactly what it takes to achieve success in the States. \u201cMichelle for Hollywood, absolutely,\u201d he said. \u201cNo doubt she can make it there, the right part and she\u2019s away. I\u2019m working with top Hollywood stars and Michelle\u2019s of that calibre.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2024, the actress \u2013 who first found fame as Coronation Street<\/a>\u2019s Tina McIntyre 18 years ago \u2013 said she\u2019d be open to the idea of leaving the UK to pursue a Hollywood career if the right job came up. But since then Michelle has become a mum, welcoming Palma in March 2025 \u2013 which has put her life and career in a new perspective.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Michelle and Mark] have been apart before, but having Palma completely changes the situation,\u201d our source says. \u201cThey would have to have a serious conversation about what happens next. Mark would likely have to take some time off to go out there \u2013 and while he doesn\u2019t want to leave the UK, being apart from his wife and child isn\u2019t an option. He could be swayed if the move was only temporary. But if she gets the role, he might not have a choice.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former TOWIE star, 39, who married Michelle in 2015, has had his own taste of Hollywood success \u2013 in 2017, Mark landed his first US gig hosting entertainment news show Extra. But he gave it up in 2019 amid media reports that the long distance was putting a strain on his marriage, which the couple denied. Pals say Mark is incredibly supportive of his wife\u2019s ambitions but ultimately, one of them will have to make a \u201csacrifice\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019d never stop Michelle from living her dream \u2013 he\u2019s so proud of her,\u201d we\u2019re told. \u201cBut there are a lot of \u2018ifs\u2019. The fact is, they\u2019ve seen so many couples that haven\u2019t worked out because of distance and while they did manage it, it wasn\u2019t easy. Now that they have a daughter, there will have to be a sacrifice on one side \u2013 it\u2019s about who will be the one to give in.\u201d<\/p>\n
