Former Liverpool transfer target Marc Guehi was jeered at Anfield during Man City’s 2-1 win.<\/p>\n

Manchester City defender Marc Guehi<\/a> admits that he was left confused as he responded to Liverpool<\/a> boos on Sunday. The 25-year-old centre-back returned to Anfield<\/a> with his new club after joining from Crystal Palace last month.<\/p>\n

Guehi was at the centre of a well-publicised pursuit from Liverpool and came close to making the switch to the Reds in the summer<\/a>. Indeed, he underwent a medical before Palace pulled the plug on the deal.<\/p>\n

City intensified their own interest during January’s window amid injury issues and in stepping up their pursuit, and with Liverpool waiting until the summer, Pep Guardiola’s side bolstered up their back-line. As Guehi visited Anfield with his new club<\/a>, sections of the Anfield crowd jeered the England international.<\/p>\n

However, Guehi dismissed the reaction from the Liverpool crowd.<\/p>\n

He told BeIN Sport: “It was good, I think I expected everything that was going to happen today.<\/p>\n

“A fantastic atmosphere, great game of football so it was nice to win.<\/p>\n

“No, not really. I tried to just play my game, to be honest. How they feel is how they feel and that’s fine.<\/p>\n

“It’s just satisfying that we got the three points, it doesn’t matter who it’s against. It’s a fantastic team, great club, but three points is three points so doesn’t really matter.”<\/p>\n

In an interview with the club, he added: “I’m not sure why to be honest. I can’t control what their fans think of me, I’m just grateful to our fans for sticking by me the whole game.”<\/p>\n

Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland secured a massive win for Guardiola’s side in their Premier League<\/a> title battle.<\/p>\n

However, for Liverpool, it was a damaging afternoon in their hopes to qualify for next season’s Champions League<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dominik Szoboszlai handed the Reds the lead with a superb free-kick, but the encounter was turned on its head as City hit back six minutes from time, before Haaland netted the winner from the spot in stoppage time.<\/p>\n

Arne Slot’s side sit five points off Manchester United in fourth and four away from Chelsea. The Reds selection issues deepened, meanwhile, with Szoboszlai suspended after picking up a red card late on for denying a goal-scoring opportunity after pulling Haaland back.<\/p>\n

Slot was, though, forced to praise Guehi for his impressive display against the Reds.<\/p>\n

The Liverpool manager said: “It’s every time a different goal, of course. Just before that moment when they scored the 2-1 we went with Curtis [Jones] in a very promising situation, Mo [Salah] went deep, Curtis is such a special and good player on the ball, so there was a fair chance he would have maybe eight out of 10 times [found Salah].<\/p>\n

“Guehi had a great interception, a great signing of them.
