Manchester United have reportedly shown interest in Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali ahead of the summer window.<\/p>\n

Ineos are scouring the market for a central midfielder, especially after the confirmation of Casemiro\u2019s exit<\/a> at the end of the season.<\/p>\n

United\u2019s top target is Elliot Anderson<\/a>, with the 23-year-old enjoying a spectacular season at Nottingham Forest. But there is also interest in his signature from Manchester City.<\/p>\n

According to The Telegraph<\/a>, Tonali would require a \u00a3100m fee to be prised away from Newcastle United. On top of that, it is said the Italian wants Champions League football \u2013 that has to be Michael Carrick\u2019s aim.<\/p>\n

Newcastle find themselves down in 12th in the Premier League table, so qualifying for the Champions League looks unlikely. In contrast, United are up in fourth and are now five points clear of Liverpool in sixth.<\/p>\n

Sporting director Jason Wilcox wants United to qualify for the Champions League<\/a>, and Carrick is delivering better than anyone expected. With 13 games remaining this season, United are considered favourites to return to Europe.<\/p>\n

United\u2019s spending power will grow in the Champions League<\/a>, and it will also make Old Trafford a much more attractive location for top players \u2013 Tonali is just one example.<\/p>\n

Convincing the likes of Tonali, Anderson or Wharton to join the Red Devils will likely rely on Champions League qualification, so Carrick\u2019s end to the season is of utmost importance.<\/p>\n

In the summer, United frustrated Newcastle by beating them to several top transfer targets. In spite of the Tyneside club reaching the Champions League.<\/p>\n

Newcastle bid for Benjamin Sesko<\/a> but the Slovenian only ever wanted to move to Old Trafford. Before that, Newcastle had shown interest in Bryan Mbeumo<\/a>, but he too had his sights set on Manchester.<\/p>\n

It sparked up an interesting rivalry between the two clubs and fanbases, and now United are ready to deal their biggest blow yet by potentially signing Tonali.<\/p>\n

United must be careful, though, as Newcastle could use Tonali\u2019s fee on Anderson<\/a> to try and bring their former academy player back to St James\u2019 Park.<\/p>\n

Anderson should still be the absolute top priority, and funding Newcastle\u2019s move for him would feel like a backwards step.<\/p>\n
