An investigation into a fatal collision on the A19 northbound near Stockton is ongoing<\/p>\n

A man has died following a collision on the A19 in Stockton<\/a>. The northbound carriageway reopened shortly before 5pm on Monday, February 9, following the fatal crash at around 7am just before the Norton<\/a> turn off.<\/p>\n

The pedestrian, a 50-year-old man, sadly died at the scene. Cleveland Police<\/a> has confirmed his next of kin have been informed.<\/p>\n

Photographs from the scene show collision investigators taking photographs and gathering evidence. The road was closed between the A19<\/a> Portrack Interchange and the Norton Interchange for almost 10 hours. Diversions were put in place.<\/p>\n

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: “The pedestrian, a 50-year-old man, was sadly declared dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts remain with them at this time.<\/p>\n

“Officers currently remain at the scene and the road remains closed between the A19 Portrack Interchange and the Norton Interchange. Diversions are in place.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019d like to thank the members of the public who assisted us this morning and for their patience as we continue to deal with this incident. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or may have dash cam footage is asked to contact Cleveland Police on 101, quoting reference number 025127.”<\/p>\n

Details of the vehicle involved in the collision have not been confirmed at this time. Photographs taken at the scene on Monday at around 12pm show collision investigators focusing on a silver BMW.<\/p>\n

Witnesses said earlier on Monday that a ‘blue tent’ was erected at the scene. The North East Ambulance has said: “We were called just before 7.00am, February 9, to an incident on the A19 Fleet Bridge Road. We dispatched two paramedic ambulances, a doctor, a specialist paramedic and a clinical team leader to attend a collision between a pedestrian and a vehicle”.<\/p>\n

The A19 in both directions is now fully open. A passing motorist told Teesside Live on Monday morning: “There was a blue tent <\/a>up on the actual carriageway, just before the flyover. It was on the side of the A19 as if you’re driving towards Hartlepool<\/a> – northbound. Police were turning people around on the road so they were having to drive on the wrong side of the road”.<\/p>\n
