{"id":417413,"date":"2026-02-10T05:08:12","date_gmt":"2026-02-10T05:08:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/417413\/"},"modified":"2026-02-10T05:08:12","modified_gmt":"2026-02-10T05:08:12","slug":"aecoms-middle-east-turnover-plummets-by-42","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/417413\/","title":{"rendered":"AECOM\u2019s Middle East turnover plummets by 42%"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UK entity of the multinational infrastructure, design and consultancy firm\u2019s accounts for the year ending 3 October 2025 show a turnover largely similar to the previous year\u2019s total of \u00a3777 million.<\/p>\n<p>But fees from the Middle East fell by around 42 per cent, from \u00a3109 million in 2024 to \u00a363 million in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>A report accompanying the AJ100 practice\u2019s numbers said: \u2018The company\u2019s turnover has remained stable year on year due to higher turnover per project average in the UK and Europe, which has been offset by declining revenues in the Middle East.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>In the UK region, AECOM \u2013 which employs about 130 architects \u2013 recorded income rising from \u00a3626 to \u00a3661 between 2024 and 2025. In Europe, turnover remained stable with \u00a332 million in 2024 and \u00a333 million last year.<\/p>\n<p>The results come in the wake of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/saudi-feeding-frenzy-is-over-for-architects\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">several major cancellations<\/a>, suspensions and financial viability reviews into Saudi Arabian mega projects kick-started under crown prince Mohammed bin Salman\u2019s 2030 development drive.<\/p>\n<p>The AJ has previously reported on the scaling down of NEOM\u2019s the Line and Zaha Hadid Architects\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/neom-ski-village-downsized-due-to-economic-pressures\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Trojena ski resort,<\/a> which Asia winter Olympics organisers confirmed last week would not host the 2029 Asian Winter Games. Almaty, Kazakhstan, will now host the games.\u00a0Last week, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/atkins-mukaab-mega-cube-in-saudi-arabia-put-on-ice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">the Atkins-designed Mukaab<\/a> cube-shaped skyscraper in Riyadh, the Saudi capital, was reportedly suspended.<\/p>\n<p>In November, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architectsjournal.co.uk\/news\/atkins-mukaab-mega-cube-in-saudi-arabia-put-on-ice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">AECOM<\/a> and Jacobs were appointed to detail design work and delivery on the major 2030 Vision project.<\/p>\n<p>AECOM has also been working on NEOM\u2019s \u2018backbone infrastructure design\u2019 and NEOM Bay Phase 1 since 2019, its website confirms, as well as NEOM\u2019s airport since 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, the cancellation of a Red Sea resort in Saudi Arabia is believed to have prompted proposed mass redundancies at Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG).
