As one of the UK\u2019s original \u2018Big Four\u2019 supermarkets, it feels as though there\u2019s a Tesco Express, Metro, Superstore or Extra pretty much around every corner. There are in fact\u00a0nearly 3,000 Tescos dotted around the UK, making it the most prolific supermarket of the lot. But that\u2019s not enough, apparently. Tesco has announced plans to open even more UK stores across the next two years.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tesco cut the ribbon for 60 new Express stores in 2025 and says thats it\u2019s on track to open 70 more before 2027. Now, it\u2019s revealed\u00a0the 11\u00a0locations that are next in line.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The supermarket acquired five old Amazon Fresh stores<\/a> in London and plans to reopen them as Tesco Express\u00a0locations before the summer. Those\u00a0will be in Kensington High Street, Hounslow, Moorgate, Aldgate East and Wembley.\u00a0<\/p>\n

New Express supermarkets are also coming to\u00a0Bickington in Devon, Pontrhydyrun in Torfaen, Strabane in County Tyrone and Wallyford in East Lothian. Their exact launch dates haven\u2019t been confirmed yet.\u00a0<\/p>\n

On top of those openings, there\u2019ll be two new large Tesco stores in Scotland, though it\u2019s not clear whether they\u2019ll be Tesco Extras or the slightly smaller Tesco Superstores. One will be in Pitlochry in Perth and Kinross and the other will be in Heartlands.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Nick Johnson, property director at Tesco Group, said of the brand\u2019s new branches: \u2018As one of the UK\u2019s leading retailers, we support jobs and local economies up and down the UK, and as we grow our store network we\u2019re delighted to have the opportunity to serve even more people, in even more communities.<\/p>\n

\u2018We are hugely excited about the year ahead and looking forward to meeting our customers where they are with great quality, exceptional value and brilliant customer service.\u2019<\/p>\n

Tesco\u2019s expansion announcement comes a week after Which? reported that Tesco is the UK\u2019s cheapest supermarket for a \u2018big shop\u2019 (which, according to Which? would be for a mammoth grocery list of\u00a0228 items or more), as long as you take advantage of the Clubcard discount. For a normal weekly shop, it\u2019s still trumped by Aldi and Lidl.\u00a0<\/p>\n
