<\/p>\nBirmingham City were denied the victory that would have moved them into the play-off places by neighbours West Brom<\/p>\n

Birmingham City missed the chance to move into the Championship’s top-six after being held to a goalless draw by West Bromwich Albion.<\/p>\n
August Priske was denied a stoppage time winner by an offside flag on a night where Blues did everything but score.<\/p>\n
A goal-line clearance in either half kept Blues at bay and earned Albion a valuable point in their quest to avoid relegation.<\/p>\n
Blues monopolised the ball in the opening 15 minutes and duly created the game\u2019s first goal-scoring chance from a rehearsed set piece.<\/p>\n
Kai Wagner whipped the ball to the far post where Paik Seung-ho had crept into an unmanned position and the South Korean\u2019s header would have crossed the line without Callum Styles\u2019 intervention.<\/p>\n
Blues\u2019 players immediately called for a penalty and replays showed that the ball struck Styles\u2019 hand on the goal-line before goalkeeper Max O\u2019Leary palmed it to safety. Referee Adam Herczeg didn\u2019t have the benefit of a replay and failed to award the penalty.<\/p>\n
It was a double dose of pain for Blues who lost Paik through injury in the aftermath. The midfielder landed awkwardly on his troublesome shoulder and had to be replaced by Tommy Doyle.<\/p>\n

Bright Osayi-Samuel, who was making his first Blues start in two months, was a threat to Albion\u2019s defence in the first half. The right-back underlapped Patrick Roberts perfectly and forced O\u2019Leary into a smart save.<\/p>\n
Albion weathered Blues\u2019 storm and created panic inside the hosts\u2019 box towards the end of the half. Aston Villa loanee Jamaldeen Jimoh-Aloba had the best shooting chance but his goal-bound shot was superbly blocked by Doyle.<\/p>\n
Chris Davies utilised his bench with a triple change before the hour to bring on Tomoki Iwata, Carlos Vicente and Priske.<\/p>\n
Vicente injected intensity into Blues\u2019 play by winning a corner out of nothing.<\/p>\n
A few minutes later Ibrahim Osman squeezed a shot past O\u2019Leary only for Charlie Taylor to produce a stunning goal-line clearance.<\/p>\n
Osman had another chance when he was found by Vicente\u2019s looping right-wing cross but the Ghanaian winger volleyed over the crossbar.<\/p>\n
Priske got his head to Kai Wagner\u2019s corner in stoppage time and wheeled away in celebration only for the flag to go up.<\/p>\n
There was nothing wrong with the header, but the assistant referee adjudged substitute Demarai Gray to be impeding O\u2019Leary\u2019s vision from an offside position.<\/p>\n
The result leaves Blues a point outside the play-offs, while Albion move a further point clear of the relegation zone.<\/p>\n

His distribution could have been a bit sharper.<\/p>\n Bright Osayi-Samuel 6<\/p>\n Osayi-Samuel showed his speed and athleticism down the right but he wasn\u2019t in tune with Roberts and the system had to change slightly to accommodate him.<\/p>\n Phil Neumann 6<\/p>\n Neumann was very solid defensively but some of his distribution in the second half left a lot to be desired. He overplayed and frustrated spectators.<\/p>\n Christoph Klarer 7<\/p>\n Klarer got his head to absolutely everything and even took a boot in the face from Price on one occasion that he bravely threw himself in. A dominant display.<\/p>\n Kai Wagner 7<\/p>\n There was some shrewd and tidy defensive work from Wagner but he lacked his usual threat in the attacking third. Blues\u2019 system change due to Osayi-Samuel\u2019s involvement limited Wagner\u2019s ability to go forward.<\/p>\n Jhon Solis 6.5<\/p>\n The Colombian wasn\u2019t as neat in possession as he has been in Blues\u2019 recent games and looked a little slow to spot the passes. He was, however, quite solid in his defensive work and that is a large part of his job.<\/p>\n Paik Seung-ho N\/A<\/p>\n Paik was at the heart of Blues\u2019 purposeful possession play in the opening 15 minutes and almost opened the scoring. Hopefully his shoulder injury settles down quickly.<\/p>\n Patrick Roberts 6<\/p>\n Roberts didn\u2019t combine with Osayi-Samuel to the same effect that he does with Iwata. Ducksch\u2019s touch was off and even when the ball fell to him at the end, he couldn\u2019t take it in and beat the goalkeeper. It was one of those nights.<\/p>\n Ibrahim Osman 7<\/p>\n Osman breezed past Phillips in his final action to show his searing speed and he was Blues\u2019 most dangerous outlet for 70-odd minutes. Albion handled Osman better than his previous three opponents.<\/p>\n Jay Stansfield 6<\/p>\n Stansfield worked tirelessly up front with little support from those behind him and there was some frustration that he was sacrificed before the hour.<\/p>\n SUBS<\/p>\n Tommy Doyle (for Paik, 15) 6<\/p>\n Doyle tried to get Blues moving forward quickly and improved as the night wore on.<\/p>\n Tomoki Iwata (for Osayi-Samuel, 58) 6<\/p>\n Blues\u2019 play looked more natural with Iwata at right-back and he will no doubt reclaim the spot on Sunday.<\/p>\n Carlos Vicente (for Roberts, 58) 7<\/p>\n The Spaniard showed off his sublime touch once again and put in a couple of dangerous crosses.<\/p>\n August Priske (Stansfield, 58) 6.5<\/p>\n Priske put himself about and challenged aerially.
