Jesy Nelson has shared a heartbreaking update on Tuesday, revealing her nine-month-old twin daughters are back in the hospital.<\/p>\n

The former Little Mix star posted an emotional photograph on Instagram showing Ocean and Story lying together in a hospital bed, their hands intertwined whilst watching television.<\/p>\n

Both babies can be seen with feeding tubes in their noses, covered by a blanket.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old singer captioned the touching image: “Watching TV together holding hands. My heart.”<\/p>\n

Ms Nelson welcomed the twins with her ex-fianc\u00e9 Zion Foster in May last year, with the girls arriving nine weeks premature at 31 weeks. <\/p>\n

They spent their first weeks in hospital following their early arrival, but Ms Nelson has not disclosed the reason for their current hospital stay.<\/p>\n

The twins were diagnosed last month with spinal muscular atrophy type 1<\/a>, a devastating genetic neuromuscular condition that progressively weakens and wastes muscles due to the loss of motor neurons.<\/p>\n

SMA1 represents the most severe form of this rare disease, with sufferers typically unable to sit independently. <\/p>\n

Ms Nelson’s twins have been diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) Type 1<\/p>\n

The condition often proves fatal before the age of five.<\/p>\n

Ms Nelson has been told her daughters may never walk<\/a> and might not regain strength in their necks.<\/p>\n

The feeding tubes visible in recent photographs are necessary because the condition creates severe difficulties with swallowing, sucking, and breathing.<\/p>\n

The girls also faced complications before birth, suffering from twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome whilst sharing a single placenta in the womb.<\/p>\n

Ms Nelson and Mr Foster have since separated<\/a> following their daughter’s diagnosis.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Ms Nelson described the emotional toll of providing daily medical care for her babies. <\/p>\n

“Every day is so full-on, I can speak about it, but I’ll never be able to explain how intense it is until you see it,” she said.<\/p>\n

She further explained: “They’re so tiny and I have to do things which I know are doing them good but at the time when they’re crying and screaming, it feels like I’m hurting them and I hate that I have to be the person to do that. I just want to be their mum.”<\/p>\n

Despite the heartbreak, Ms Nelson remains hopeful her daughters will exceed expectations.<\/p>\n

“My girls are the strongest, most resilient babies, and I really believe that they are going to defy all the odds,” she told Jamie Laing on his Great Company podcast.<\/p>\n

The twins have received a one-off gene therapy infusion to prevent further muscle damage, though it cannot reverse existing deterioration.<\/p>\n

Ms Nelson is now campaigning for the NHS to include SMA screening in the standard heel prick test given to newborns.<\/a> <\/p>\n

Ms Nelson says the \u00a31 test could have enabled earlier treatment that “could have saved their legs”.<\/p>\n

The singer met with Wes Streeting, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care and MP for Ilford North, in January to discuss her daughter\u2019s condition.<\/p>\n

Mr Streeting admitted he “didn\u2019t know” the full impact of SMA testing until hearing directly from Ms Nelson.<\/p>\n
