TheThis Is Us alum, 41, and her musician husband, 40, opened the doors to their completed abode in an interview and video tour with Architectural Digest<\/a>, published on Wednesday, Feb. 11.<\/p>\n Moore had previously been documenting the years-long construction and renovation process of the 1931 Spanish Colonial Revival ever since she and her husband bought it back in 2020.\u00a0The couple \u2014 who have since welcomed sons Gus, 4, and Ozzie, 3, as well as 1-year-old daughter Lou \u2014 had the vision of transforming the space into their idyllic family home.<\/p>\n However, In January 2025, Moore shared the devastating news that her neighborhood, including her family’s home, in Altadena was impacted by the Eaton fire<\/a>, one of a series of wildfires in L.A.<\/a> that left more than 80,000 people displaced<\/a> and destroyed more than 1,000 structures<\/a>.<\/p>\n Trevor Tondro \/ Architectural Digest<\/p>\n Speaking to AD, Moore and Goldsmith recalled the immediate aftermath of the fires and why it was important for them to rebuild the home<\/a> they poured so much time and effort into.<\/p>\n \u201cI came here the day, like a few hours after, the fire passed through this area<\/a>,\u201d Goldsmith recalled. \u201cThe studio was on fire in the back, the garage was already burnt down. As the days went on, we realized our house made it.\u201d<\/p>\n While the main structure of the home was still standing, the couple recalls having to throw away all the \u201csoft goods\u201d<\/a> \u2014 like the rugs, furniture and clothing \u2014 as a result of the damage from the fire. Their family had to relocate to a rental home for nine months, but they were determined to rebuild.<\/p>\n \u201cI think what initially lured us to Altadena is the spirit of the community here,\u201d Moore told the outlet. \u201cLike overwhelmingly you just feel so proud to live here. And so proud to stake your claim here. Like we\u2019re not leaving, we\u2019re digging in deep. We\u2019re rebuilding what we lost.\u201d<\/p>\n Beginning to get emotional, she recalled how one of her neighbors, who also lost his home to the blaze, expressed how happy he was that their home was able to withstand the natural disaster.<\/p>\n \u201cWe were\u2026 I don\u2019t want to cry,\u201d the actress began. \u201cBut our sweet neighbor said that if anyone\u2019s house made it, he was glad it was ours, because we had been working on it for so long. The grace that somebody who just lost their entire life would have for their neighbor is just beyond. I think that speaks to what this community is.\u201d<\/p>\n Mandy Moore\/Instagram<\/p>\n After embarking on the months-long restoration process with their designer Sarah Sherman Samuel and architect Emily Farnham, they were finally able to move back into their dream family home and settle into the property they worked so hard on this past September.<\/p>\n Describing their new abode, Moore said: \u201cI feel like it\u2019s very intentionally softer and warmer and richer, and more colorful and playful,\u201d adding that it feels \u201cless precious\u201d than their previous home \u201cin the best way.\u201d<\/p>\n Goldsmith agreed, noting that they wanted the property to be able to \u201cage gracefully\u201d with their family.<\/p>\n \u201cWe wanted this house to be more of a family home than our previous home,\u201d he explained. \u201cWe knew we were coming into this one with children \u2014 we didn\u2019t know how many at the time, but turns out it was three.\u201d<\/p>\n Trevor Tondro \/ Architectural Digest<\/p>\n In their living room, they kept the layout mostly the same but changed certain pieces after the fire, such as the lounge chairs and the fabric on the couch.<\/p>\n One space that Moore says is their \u201csneakily favorite room in the house\u201d is the \u201ccozy\u201d screening room that Goldsmith sees as his library.<\/p>\n It\u2019s where his prized book collection featuring a number of first editions is on display in the built-in bookshelves.
