Rafael Nadal’s uncle and former coach, Toni, believes Novak Djokovic<\/a> has declined to the extent he is now clearly worse than a player without any Grand Slam titles. The veteran Serb hasn’t won a tournament since claiming Olympic gold two years ago and appears to be nearing the twilight of his career. The only member of the so-called Big Three to still be playing professionally, he will celebrate his 39th birthday later this year.<\/p>\n It has been clear for some time that Djokovic is no longer the unstoppable force he once was. The likes of Jannik Sinner<\/a> and Carlos Alcaraz<\/a> have emerged as the dominant players of the current generation, having won all of the last nine Grand Slams between them. Djokovic, meanwhile, hasn’t prevailed on the biggest stage aside from the Olympics since his US Open triumph in 2023.<\/p>\n Toni, best known for coaching his legendary nephew, believes Djokovic is even worse than Alexander Zverev<\/a> despite the German’s lack of Grand Slam titles.<\/p>\n During an appearance on the Onda Cero radio network, Nadal said: “He [Zverev] is a dangerous rival and, for me, he\u2019s clearly better than Djokovic is today.<\/p>\n “If Zverev had won that match [the Australian Open<\/a> semi-final against Alcaraz], he probably would have won the final too. It would change him because it gives you extra confidence and takes away the pressure he has to win a Grand Slam.”<\/p>\n Djokovic is yet to announce any plans to retire from tennis, but he hinted at a possible exit from the sport after his defeat to Alcaraz in the Australian Open final.<\/p>\n He claimed that he didn’t know what the future held for him, telling the fans at Rod Laver Arena that it had been ‘a great ride’.<\/p>\n Ensure our latest sport headlines always appear at the top of your Google Search by making us a Preferred Source. I love you guys.”<\/p>\n After appearing to pass on the torch to the next generation, it was fitting that another of Djokovic’s great rivals, Rafael Nadal<\/a>, was in the stands.<\/p>\n “Just a few words, obviously it feels very weird to see you there and not here, but it’s been an honour to share the court with you, and see you watch the finals,” he told the Spaniard. “It’s an honour.
