The Delhi High Court on Tuesday urged members of the Kapur family linked to auto component maker Sona Comstar to resolve their inheritance dispute amicably, stressing that strained relationships should not overshadow the legacy built by the late Surinder Kapur and his successor, Sunjay Kapur. <\/p>\n

Hearing the matter, Justice Mini Pushkarna told the parties that \u201cblessings should not be turned into curse\u201d and emphasised the need for reconciliation.
The high court observed that efforts must be made on both sides, noting that \u201cGod has blessed you a lot with financial wealth. Try to respect your relations. All of you have suffered losses\u2026 live happily. This is the fruits of someone\u2019s (late Surinder Kapur) labour.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sunjay Kapoor’s family, including his two children with actor Karisma Kapoor, his wife Priya<\/a> Kapur and his mother, Rani Kapoor, are in the midst of a legal dispute over his inheritance. The industrialist died last year in June in the United Kingdom. <\/p>\n

The judge suggested that lawyers representing the parties could work together toward a mutually beneficial resolution. \u201cLawyers can sit together and resolve for everyone\u2019s benefit,\u201d the court said, while also remarking on the complexity of the dispute, adding that \u201cwe all know that there are half truths and half false.\u201d<\/p>\n

Justice Pushkarna further said that continuing allegations and counter-allegations would not help the family. \u201cUltimately it\u2019s for your own good. Allegations and counter allegations won\u2019t take you anywhere,\u201d the court observed, encouraging the parties to adopt a more constructive approach.
During the hearing, the court also addressed Priya Kapur, stating that she should recognise the origins of the family\u2019s business empire. It noted that it was Rani\u2019s husband \u201cwho has founded everything. It\u2019s his empire.\u201d Calling for reconciliation, the court asked counsel on both sides to take proactive steps toward a settlement and urged family members to show generosity in resolving differences. \u201cAll of you should have a large heart,\u201d the judge said.The dispute is part of a broader inheritance battle over the assets of late industrialist Sunjay Kapur, former chairman of Sona Comstar, who died of a heart attack in the UK on June 12 last year at the age of 53. His mother, 80-year-old Rani Kapur, has approached the High Court seeking to declare the \u201cRK Family Trust\/Rani Kapur Family Trust\u201d fraudulent, null and void, restrain Priya Kapur from acting on it, and obtain a full account of the trust\u2019s activities since inception.<\/p>\n

Rani Kapur has described herself as the matriarch of a family that includes her two daughters, her late son Sunjay and their children \u2014 seven grandchildren in total. The dispute intensified after actor Karisma Kapoor\u2019s children sought a share in their late father\u2019s estimated Rs 30,000-crore assets.<\/p>\n

Related proceedings have also reached the Supreme Court, where Priya Kapur sought certified copies of records from Karisma Kapoor\u2019s 2016 divorce from Sunjay Kapur to clarify financial and child-custody arrangements made during his lifetime. While Priya has argued the request is directly linked to succession issues and causes no prejudice, Karisma\u2019s counsel has termed the plea \u201cfrivolous\u201d and an attempt to access confidential personal information.<\/p>\n
