{"id":422727,"date":"2026-02-13T01:21:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-13T01:21:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/422727\/"},"modified":"2026-02-13T01:21:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-13T01:21:08","slug":"family-tells-of-profound-sadness-after-jury-finds-strictly-dancer-took-his-own-life-strictly-come-dancing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/422727\/","title":{"rendered":"Family tells of \u2018profound sadness\u2019 after jury finds Strictly dancer took his own life | Strictly Come Dancing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The family of a Strictly Come Dancing professional dancer have told of their \u201cprofound sadness\u201d after an inquest jury concluded he took his own life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Robin Windsor, 44, was found in a hotel room in Shepherd\u2019s Bush, west London, in February 2024.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Jurors found Windsor was \u201cvulnerable to rejection both emotionally and professionally\u201d and that this was among the \u201ccontributing factors\u201d that led to his death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In a statement on Windsor\u2019s X account on Thursday, after the conclusion of the inquest, his family said: \u201cThe coroner has now concluded the investigation into the cause of Robin\u2019s death. It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge that Robin took his own life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cAs a family, together with Robin\u2019s close friends, we can now begin to move forward and attempt, over time, to rebuild our lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Latin and ballroom dancer joined the BBC programme in 2010 and danced with actors Patsy Kensit, Anita Dobson and Lisa Riley, along with Dragons\u2019 Den entrepreneur Deborah Meaden, in four series until 2013.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">He could not perform in the 2014 series because of a back injury and was dropped in 2015 but still appeared in the Christmas special that year, dancing alongside TV presenter Alison Hammond.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">A written statement from Emmerdale actor Riley read to the inquest at west London coroner\u2019s court said Windsor\u2019s \u201cglow had gone\u201d after he was cut from the professional dancers\u2019 lineup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">She said: \u201cIt was from this moment, on to the time of his death, he kept slipping deeper and deeper into endless depression.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cHis glow had gone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Addressing Windsor\u2019s family in the courtroom, the coroner, Dr Anton van Dellen, said: \u201cI hope you can think of the happy times he brought to the public and the deep affection the public held him in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The dancer\u2019s family thanked those who \u201cmarked [Windsor\u2019s] life with such love\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cWe wish to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has shown us kindness, compassion and support throughout the long and difficult period since Robin\u2019s passing,\u201d their statement said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cThank you to everyone who has remembered Robin and marked his life with such love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">A BBC spokesperson said: \u201cOur sympathies are with Robin\u2019s family, friends and all who knew him. The whole of the Strictly Come Dancing family remain deeply saddened by his passing. Robin was a much-loved member of the team \u2013 both on and off air \u2013 during his time on the show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cAs the inquest has heard this week and the jury concluded, several complex factors contributed to how Robin felt at the time of his tragic death and our thoughts remain with all who knew and loved Robin.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Windsor, from Ipswich, had been an ambassador for mental health charity Sane.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The Windsor family statement concluded: \u201cIf you or someone you care for is struggling with mental health, reaching out for support can really make a difference.
