Charley Hull has responded to Rory McIlroy’s<\/a> recent comments about the prospect of five majors in the men’s game, insisting that it work’s for the women. McIlroy has already won every major in golf<\/a>, securing his career Grand Slam in 2025 with his first green jacket at the Masters<\/a>.<\/p>\n The Player’s Championship, which the Northern Irishman<\/a> has won twice, has long been nicknamed ‘the fifth major’ in men’s golf<\/a>. Earlier in February, the tournament promoted the event on their social media pages with the caption: “March is going to be major.”<\/p>\n This has sparked speculation that the March event will be made an official major<\/a> in men’s golf – something that McIlroy isn’t a fan of. Relating the rumours to his triumphs at the Player’s Championship<\/a>, the 36-year-old said: “Look, I’d love to have seven majors instead of five, that sounds great.<\/p>\n “I think the Players is one of the best golf<\/a> tournaments in the world<\/a>. I don’t think anyone disputes that or argues that. I think from a player perspective it’s amazing. I think from an on-site fan experience it’s amazing. I don’t know how well that’s went for them.”<\/p>\n McIlroy’s comments sparked debate about the nature of a fifth major in the men’s game. It\u2019s one more chance to win one each year than the men!”<\/p>\n In comparison to McIlroy, Hull has yet to win a major championship in her career, earning second-place at the British Open, US Open and Chevron Championship.<\/p>\n JOIN US ON FACEBOOK! McIlroy said: “It needs to go back to August,” in order to get away from being sandwiched between the Masters and US Open.<\/p>\n He added: “The Players, it doesn’t need to be anything else. I would say it’s got more of an identity than the PGA Championship does at the minute.<\/p>\n “So from an identity standpoint, I think the Players has got it nailed.
