The New Forest is world famous for its wild horses, babbling brooks, ancient trees and\u2026 old tyres.<\/p>\n
Now, a litterbug has been tracked down and fined after \u2018one of the worst ever\u2019 fly-tipping dumps ever in the protected beauty spot.<\/p>\n
The mound of rubbish was dumped at Norleywood Inclosure, near the B3054 outside Lymington, Hampshire, overnight on October 1.<\/p>\n
Investigators said it included cardboard, electrical appliances and numerous black sacks filled with household waste.<\/p>\n
The waste dump sparked a joint investigation by New Forest District Council (NFDC) and Forestry England<\/a>, which manages much of the land within the protected national park.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tSign up for all of the latest stories\t\t\t<\/p>\n Start your day informed with Metro’s News Updates<\/a> newsletter or get Breaking News<\/a> alerts the moment it happens. <\/p>\n At the time, officials shared images of the rubbish online and appealed for help to identify the people responsible.<\/p>\n \t\t Today, NFDC confirmed its enforcement team traced the waste to someone who lived outside the area and had paid an unlicensed company to remove rubbish from their home.<\/p>\n The person was issued with a fixed penalty notice. Officials reminded householders to make sure they used registered waste carriers for rubbish removal.<\/p>\n Police, the Environment Agency<\/a> (EA<\/a>) and local authorities have been battling increasing problems with flytipping across the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n \t\t Earlier this month, a site off the M57, in Kirkby, Merseyside<\/a>, was shut down after 30,000 tonnes of rubbish were dumped illegally.<\/p>\n It was just the latest in a string of so-called \u2018super-sites\u2019, including Northwich, in Cheshire<\/a>, which contains around 280,000 tonnes and is so full that the soil has been contaminated\u00a0<\/p>\n Sites in Burnley<\/a>, Lancashire<\/a>, and Camborne, Cornwall<\/a>, both hold 50,000 tonnes of predominantly construction and demolition waste.<\/p>\n A dump in Sittingbourne, Kent, contains approximately 36,000 tonnes of commercial and construction waste.<\/p>\n More than 700 illegal dumps were shut down in 2024\/5 but the problem shows no sign of abating.\u00a0<\/p>\n Many flytippers are linked to organised gangs and phoney \u2018waste disposal\u2019 operators.<\/p>\n Arrow Arrow Arrow![\"\"](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/coverimages55477733-5f28.jpg\")
