{"id":432234,"date":"2026-02-18T12:07:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-18T12:07:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/432234\/"},"modified":"2026-02-18T12:07:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-18T12:07:08","slug":"british-glass-warns-of-complexity-of-wales-drs-exclusion-from-internal-market-act","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/432234\/","title":{"rendered":"British Glass warns of complexity of Wales DRS exclusion from Internal Market Act"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Businesses operating across the UK will be required to comply with different regulatory frameworks in Wales compared to England and Scotland, and British Glass said this risks creating \u2018complexity, confusion and additional burdens for producers and the supply chain\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The association said it raised strong concerns and presented clear evidence that including glass in the DRS in Wales \u2013 but not elsewhere in the UK \u2013 would have negative consequences for both Welsh consumers and the wider economy, with potential for market fragmentation, increased costs, cross-border complexity and unintended environmental impacts.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Kirk, British Glass federation director, said: \u201cWe remain committed to engaging constructively with the Welsh and UK Governments to ensure that the detail of implementation minimises disruption. Clarity on operational design, producer obligations, cost impacts, and interaction with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) will be essential.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBritish Glass supports measures that genuinely improve recycling and environmental performance.
