{"id":434162,"date":"2026-02-19T12:56:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T12:56:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/434162\/"},"modified":"2026-02-19T12:56:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T12:56:07","slug":"uk-ex-prince-andrew-arrested-on-suspicion-of-misconduct-in-public-office-sexual-assault-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/434162\/","title":{"rendered":"UK ex-Prince Andrew arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office | Sexual Assault News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__subhead\">Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was stripped of his title last year over his friendship with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n<p>Listen to this article\u00a0|\u00a01 min<\/p>\n<p>info<\/p>\n<p>Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, the United Kingdom former royal, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/liveblog\/2026\/2\/19\/live-ex-uk-prince-andrew-arrested-amid-epstein-scandal\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">has been arrested<\/a> on suspicion of misconduct in public office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A statement from Thames Valley police was released Thursday that said, \u201cAs part of the investigation, we have today (19\/2) arrested a man in his sixties from Norfolk on suspicion of misconduct in public office and are carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cThe man remains in police custody at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>King Charles II said after arrest that \u201cthe law must take its course\u201d in the investigation of his brother.<\/p>\n<p>Mountbatten-Windsor, the British former prince, was stripped of his title last year over his friendship with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, amid ongoing furore over accusations against him of sexual assault, which he denies.<\/p>\n<p>Police officers were investigating him for several allegations that emerged after US authorities released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2026\/1\/30\/us-department-of-justice-releases-three-million-new-epstein-documents\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">more than 3 million pages<\/a> of documents relating \u2060to the disgraced financier.<\/p>\n<p>Some of those files suggested that Mountbatten-Windsor had, in 2010, forwarded to Epstein reports about Vietnam, Singapore and other places he had visited on \u200cofficial trips as UK trade envoy. In one confidential memo, he sought Epstein\u2019s views on investment opportunities in Afghanistan\u2019s Helmand province.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cWe will not be naming the arrested man, as per national guidance. Please also remember that this case is now active so care should be taken with any publication to avoid being in contempt of court,\u201d the police statement added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Assistant Chief Constable Oliver Wright said: \u201cFollowing a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">\u201cIt is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence. We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mountbatten-Windsor should cooperate with the United States authorities in their investigation, the UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has said. \u201cNo one is above the law,\u201d he added.
