DF says that PS5 appears to have a slight performance advantage in the higher frame rate modes (mostly due to a better implementation of VRR), but the visuals on offer are a little sharper on Xbox Series X generally speaking.

In fact, the outlet shows that Series X basically matches PS5 Pro from a visuals standpoint, with Obsidian not opting to push Sony’s mid-gen console much further than the top-end Xbox version. We’ll share some quotes on these findings down below:

Performance: “On PS5, VRR is implemented correctly: the unlocked modes can run a bit faster than their frame-rate targets, and VRR cleans up the fluidity of the presentation nicely. […] You’re not getting massive gains – think mid-60s in performance mode, mid-to-high 40s in balance mode – but it works as it should. In this specific area, PS5 unexpectedly takes the lead in a world where Xbox’s system-level VRR should be doing the developer’s work for them.”

Visuals: “Quality mode targets 1440p, effectively trading frames for pixels. The existing Xbox Series X version hits that target more often than PS5, but the differences are subtle […] Yes, you can play on PS5 Pro with some enhancements, but it’s as basic as it’s going to get. What you receive is essentially the same game as Xbox Series X in terms of both resolution and settings, with internal resolutions capping at 1440p and 1080p respectively for the quality and performance mode.”

If you want to get the full picture on how Avowed is stacking up across all consoles, it’s definitely worth either watching the video up at the top of this article to see all the different versions in action – or have a read of the full DF written review, which we’ve included a link to down below as well.

What are your thoughts on all of this?
