Rab C Nesbitt star Gregor Fisher says he is no longer recognised after diagnosed with diabetes and losing weight<\/a>.<\/p>\n More than a decade after the reboot of the series came to an end, Gregor has taken on board doctor’s advice to make a host of lifestyle changes.<\/p>\n Speaking to BBC Scotland<\/a> ahead of his upcoming UK tour, the 72-year-old said that he doesn’t mind not being recognised for the comedy.<\/p>\n He said: “I’ve lost quite a lot of weight because I was told I was diabetic<\/a> and it might be good if I could lose a couple of pounds.<\/p>\n “I quite like not being recognised by people noawadays, actually.”<\/p>\n Gregor joked that it was now only the more “eagle-eyed people in his local supermarket” that are able to spot who he is.<\/p>\n Best known for portraying Glaswegian<\/a> alcoholic Rab C. Nesbitt, Gregor starred in the series which ran from 1988 to 1999 before being rebooted in 2010-11 and a final New Year’s special in 2014.<\/p>\n He has also starred in films Love Actually, Whisky Galore! and The Merchant of Venice. More recently, Gregor has teamed up with Gary: Tank Commander star Greg McHugh<\/a> in the father and son comedy series Only Child.<\/p>\n Ahead of the second series of the BBC<\/a> Scotland show, Gregor said: “It’s quite thrilling to be a 72-year-old and still be required to make television shows.<\/p>\n (Image: BBC\/Happy Tramp North)<\/p>\n “Especially when it is with the wonderful Greg McHugh<\/a>, who is my favourite actor on the planet at the minute.<\/p>\n “It’s great to be working with him, although I think I do annoy him now and again.”<\/p>\n Gregor, who portrays Ken in the show, said he was a very different character to Rab and that he had to focus on showing the “heart” in Ken.<\/p>\n He said: “I try to make my characters as believable and as real as possible, even though sometimes, especially with Rab C. Nesbitt, he was not very real.<\/p>\n “You have to believe it because if the characters don’t have some sort of beating heart or some sort of reality, people won’t care about them.<\/p>\n “But if you do the characters like they are written, then that will give them the meaning and life.”<\/p>\n Next month, Gregor will take to the stage for the first leg of his UK tour at Lanark<\/a> Memorial Hall. Joined by his friend and colleague Nigel West, An Evening With Gregor Fisher will explore stories and anecdotes from Gregor’s life and career before a Q&A with the audience.<\/p>\n Speaking ahead of the tour, he said: “When you work on television, there are no people and there is no feedback.<\/p>\n “It’s not as if the audience clap, so there is no connection.<\/p>\n “I like the immediacy of it and the back and forth,” he added.<\/p>\n “I have one or two topics to jump between but I haven’t prepared anything and I don’t know what the audience is going to ask during the Q&A.<\/p>\n “It’ll be mostly personal with some show business, so that will be interesting.”<\/p>\n![](\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/0_Screenshot-2026-02-19-at-090603JPG.jpg\")
