Hilary Duff<\/a>‘s new song We Don’t Talk has been the talk of the town because it’s believed to be about her rift with sister Haylie<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 38-year-old singer has remained quiet about what drove her to write the emotional tune. That is, until now.<\/p>\n

Duff finally came clean about the matter during an interview with CBS News special correspondent Anthony Mason for CBS Mornings<\/a> on Friday.<\/p>\n

‘It’s definitely about my sister. And just absolutely the most lonely part of my existence is not having my sister in my life at the moment,’ Duff admitted.<\/p>\n

‘I really struggled with thinking about including that on the record. But it\u2019s funny as a person that exists in the world without my other half, so many people are having that experience,’ and ultimately included the song on the record ‘because it’s my reality.’<\/p>\n

Duff’s new album luck\u2026 or something was released on Friday and produced with her husband Matthew Koma, about whom she made a controversial admission<\/a>. They share daughters Banks Violet, seven, Mae James, four, and Townes Meadow Bair, one. She also has son Luca, 13, with ex-husband Mike Comrie.<\/p>\n

The sisters’ relationship has been fractured for years and they haven’t been photographed together since 2019 (pictured together in July 2010)<\/p>\n

The former Lizzie McGuire star isn’t sure what her sister will think of the song or if she’ll even listen to it.<\/p>\n

‘I\u2019m not sure that will help,’ Duff maintained. ‘I think I have to exist as a person on my own and do what I want to do. I hope that for everyone. That is where I’m sitting. You have to do what you want to do and you have to do what feels good for you.<\/p>\n

‘It’s taken me a lot of time to get there and to live that way and to not care about the noise around that and just be me.<\/p>\n

‘I don\u2019t know if she’ll hear it. I don’t know how she’ll react to it. But it is a really personal part of my life that doesn’t get to stay personal.\u00a0<\/p>\n

‘So, I might as well say how it is for me as an experience. I’m not trying to say something bad, it’s literally just my experience. That\u2019s really all I feel like sharing.’<\/p>\n

The Disney Channel alum and the food blogger haven’t been photographed together since 2019 and appear to have little to no online interaction.<\/p>\n

While Duff didn’t go into why the sisters’ relationship became fractured, the lyrics in We Don’t Talk shed some light on the painful situation.<\/p>\n

‘If it’s ’cause you’re jealous \/ God knows I would sell it all, then break you off the bigger half,’ she sings.<\/p>\n

Duff\u2019s sixth studio album \u2013 her first music in a decade \u2013 has been described as her most vulnerable to date.<\/p>\n

Besides the sisterly feud, the album delves into her life as a mother of four and former child star and other complicated family dynamics. The song The Optimist reveals her difficult relationship with father, Robert, not speaking with him and trying to win his approval.<\/p>\n

Duff, meanwhile, performed a limited residency at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas this month, and returns for more dates in May as part of her Small Rooms, Big Nerves tour and surrounding her new album’s release.<\/p>\n
