{"id":437553,"date":"2026-02-21T07:59:12","date_gmt":"2026-02-21T07:59:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/437553\/"},"modified":"2026-02-21T07:59:12","modified_gmt":"2026-02-21T07:59:12","slug":"m61-motorway-closed-as-car-lodged-under-lorry-in-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/437553\/","title":{"rendered":"M61 motorway closed as car \u2018lodged\u2019 under lorry in crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theboltonnews.co.uk\/topics\/emergency\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Emergency<\/a> services were called to the incident on the M61 northbound at around 8.30am on Friday, February 20.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Both sides of the motorway were closed between junctions two and four for several hours.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theboltonnews.co.uk\/topics\/greater-manchester-police-gmp\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Police<\/a> confirmed that the collision involved <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theboltonnews.co.uk\/topics\/emergency\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">two cars<\/a> and an HGV.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  An air ambulance, police and fire crews were all in attendance as they worked to free a car that had become \u2018lodged\u2019 underneath a lorry.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  <img   width=\"100%\"\/>Traffic heading towards the M61 this morning, Friday, February 20 (Image: Phil Taylor)\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) shared that there was\u00a0also one ambulance and two rapid response vehicles on the scene.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  They said that \u201cone patient with minor injuries\u201d was taken to Chorley and South Ribble Hospital.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  A spokesperson for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theboltonnews.co.uk\/topics\/greater-manchester-fire-and-rescue-service\/?ref=ed_direct\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS)<\/a> said: \u201cAt around 8.30am this morning (Friday 20 February), three fire engines from Farnworth and Bolton Central fire stations and the enhanced rescue unit from Leigh fire station attended a crash involving two <a href=\"http:\/\/www.burytimes.co.uk\/cars?ref=au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">cars<\/a> and one heavy goods vehicle on the M61 northbound carriageway between junctions 3 and 4.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  \u201cFirefighters arrived quickly to make the area safe and helped remove one person from a vehicle before they were passed into the care of North West Ambulance Service and conveyed to hospital.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Crews were in attendance for roughly 45 minutes.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Motorway lanes reopened just before noon.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Traffic was also stopped\u00a0on the M61\u00a0northbound in Lancashire between J8 (Chorley)\u00a0and J9 (M65)\u00a0due to a multi-vehicle collision.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Emergency services and recovery took place with lanes opening shortly afterwards.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  But drivers were warned of congestion during the recovery operation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Emergency services were called to the incident on the M61 northbound at around 8.30am on Friday, February 20.&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":437554,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[59,57,58,50,56,54,55],"class_list":{"0":"post-437553","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-united-kingdom","8":"tag-gb","9":"tag-great-britain","10":"tag-greatbritain","11":"tag-news","12":"tag-uk","13":"tag-united-kingdom","14":"tag-unitedkingdom"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/437553","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=437553"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/437553\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/437554"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=437553"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=437553"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=437553"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
