The island of Anglesey was once known as the bread basket of Wales, or as \u2018Mam Cymru\u2019, the Mother of Wales. In medieval times,\u00a0Anglesey\u2019s\u00a0rich, fertile soil grew enough produce to\u00a0nourish the entire\u00a0nation. These days, it still has some of the finest food that Wales has to offer (and supplies some of the finest sea salt in the world). With a Michelin star and four AA rosettes,\u00a0Sosban & the Old Butchers<\/a>\u00a0is the most decorated of the island\u2019s restaurants.\u00a0Its \u00a3175\u00a0nine-course menu is a\u00a0mystery\u00a0until you are sat at your table, but it always prioritises using the best locally sourced produce available on the day. <\/p>\n

Of course, a dinner there is best reserved for a special occasion. For something more low-key, we recommend\u00a0Tavern on the Bay<\/a>, which\u00a0provides superb views and elevated comfort food and\u00a0The Store<\/a>, which is\u00a0brilliant for pizza, small plates and the odd DJ night. Award-winning Dylan\u2019s<\/a> takes pride in creating menus out of North Wales\u2019 best produce while Catch 22<\/a> is a great place to go for an enormous platter of fresh local seafood.\u00a0<\/p>\n

When you\u2019re not eating, we recommend spending your time\u00a0walking the\u00a0Welsh Coastal Path around Anglesey. You\u2019ll come across\u00a0Beaumaris Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for being the \u2018greatest castle never built\u2019, the wildlife-packed\u00a0Dingle Nature Reserve<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0the nineteenth century lighthouse standing proud above\u00a0Llanddwyn Island.\u00a0<\/p>\n

If you\u2019d prefer to explore the island on wheels, book a trip in August to coincide with it\u2019s\u00a0annual Tour de M\u00f4n.\u00a0With distances ranging from 3.5 miles to 106 miles, the cycling event takes place on Aug 23 and is open for anyone to take part. And for somewhere to stay, look no further than the gorgeous\u00a0Ch\u00e2teau Rhianfa, a stately Grade II-listed Victorian villa with a private beach and views over the Menai Strait.<\/p>\n
