Crystal Palace are trying to persuade Gareth Southgate to take over as interim manager until the end of the season, sources have told Football Insider.<\/p>\n

The Premier League side are aware that fans have now turned on Oliver Glasner<\/a> and one option is to appoint a short-term replacement until his confirmed exit in the summer.<\/p>\n

Palace<\/a> are hopeful that Southgate\u2019s<\/a> affiliation with the club could be enough to lure him in on a short-term deal.<\/p>\n

The 55-year-old previously playing 191 for the Eagles and has strong connections with the club where he emerged as a force during his playing days. <\/p>\n

Thomas Frank<\/a> still remains Palace\u2019s number one target for the summer, as they prepare for Glasner\u2019s impending exit from Selhurst Park.<\/p>\n

Gareth Southgate edges closer to Premier League return<\/p>\n

Southgate has not managed in the Premier League since 2009, when he was unable to prevent Middlesbrough\u2019s relegation to the Championship.<\/p>\n

2009 also proved to be the final year the manager took charge of a domestic club as he left Boro, going on to cement his legacy in international football.<\/p>\n

Since leaving the England National Team job in 2024, Southgate has been linked to numerous Premier League jobs, most notably the Man United position.<\/p>\n

However, while a move to Old Trafford did not transpire, it appears that he is getting closer to a Premier League return through Palace.<\/p>\n

While it remains unclear if Southgate would be willing to accept an interim position, it appears that the 55-year-old is edging closer to a Premier League return.<\/p>\n

No matter what happens with Glasner in the short term, the one thing that is certain is that the manager won\u2019t be in charge of the Eagles come next season.<\/p>\n

For many Palace fans, this will be a relief, with the 51-year-old having a torrid few months at the Croydon club, winning one of his last 15 matches in all competitions, with his legacy beginning to tarnish.<\/p>\n

As a result, Palace are on the hunt for a long-term replacement, with Frank remaining the clear target from the club.<\/p>\n

Despite the Dane being sacked by Tottenham earlier this month, bringing an end to a torrid few months at the North London club, his stock remains high in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

What he achieved at Brentford over a seven-year period has clearly not been forgotten, and Palace will be hopeful that he can rekindle this magic if he is appointed at Selhurst Park.<\/p>\n
