News: #UK<\/a> Trade Envoy, Finance Ministry discuss economic reforms, investment climateAddis Abeba \u2013 The United Kingdom\u2019s Trade Envoy to the Horn of Africa held talks with senior officials at #Ethiopia<\/a>\u2019s Ministry of Finance, focusing on the country\u2019s ongoing economic reforms, macroeconomic outlook, and sectors identified as having potential to attract increased UK investment.<\/p>\n

According to the Ministry of Finance, the meeting brought together UK Trade Envoy Baroness Jane Ramsey and State Minister of Finance Semereta Sewasew, alongside other senior ministry officials. Discussions centered on recent reform measures and government efforts to improve the business and investment climate.<\/p>\n

The ministry said Semereta briefed the UK delegation on what she described as the outcomes of Ethiopia\u2019s fiscal, monetary, and financial sector reforms. These included achieving single-digit inflation, strengthening economic growth, improving tax revenue collection, increasing export earnings, and bolstering foreign exchange reserves. She noted that the measures form part of broader efforts to stabilize the economy and enhance its capacity to attract foreign investment.<\/p>\n

Baroness Ramsey, for her part, acknowledged the reform steps undertaken and said policy adjustments have enabled renewed engagement with international partners, including the World Bank. She also referenced UK-linked initiatives, including agreements with Gridworks to support green energy transmission, as well as developments related to the Tulu Kapi Gold Project.<\/p>\n

Infrastructure projects featured prominently in the discussions. The ministry said the planned Bishoftu International Airport was highlighted as an initiative that has drawn interest from UK companies operating in aviation, logistics, mining, and related services. Both sides also underscored the importance of improving customs operations to facilitate trade.<\/p>\n

In addition, Semereta outlined measures aimed at strengthening corporate governance, addressing debt burdens of state-owned enterprises, and expanding government-private sector dialogue platforms to improve investor engagement.<\/p>\n
