West Ham\u2019s owners have reacted to the record-breaking 0-0 draw with Bournemouth and are making a demand of head coach Nuno Espirito Santo in order to keep the club in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

The Hammers played out a stalemate with the Cherries at the London Stadium on Saturday evening.<\/p>\n

While it could be argued any point is precious in the battle for Premier League<\/a> survival, West Ham<\/a> failed to pile the pressure on Nottingham Forest by winning and drawing level on points with them ahead of their own game against Liverpool.<\/p>\n

Nuno Espirito Santo\u2019s<\/a> side are now two points off Forest in the safety of 17th.<\/p>\n

But that gap could widen to five points if the Tricky Trees get a shock win in what is new manager Vitor Pereira\u2019s first league game in charge.<\/p>\n

Hammers News revealed earlier this month that Nuno is targeting six games West Ham must win to survive<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Bournemouth at home was one of those matches, meaning this was very much two points dropped as far as the manager is concerned.<\/p>\n

The Hammers had 20 shots in the game but only managed to get three of them on target.<\/p>\n

While Sunday\u2019s results will likely determine whether it was two points dropped or not, the club\u2019s hierarchy are looking at the situation from a different perspective.<\/p>\n

West Ham\u2019s owners pointed to the xG stat while explaining the result away as \u2018one of those days\u2019.<\/p>\n

But the board feel Nuno and the players must now pull a rabbit or two out of the hat in games they\u2019re not expected to win in order to redress the balance.<\/p>\n

\u201cLook at the expected goals,\u201d the top spokesman for West Ham\u2019s owners<\/a> exclusively told Hammers News.<\/p>\n

Start him? Or keep him as an impact sub?<\/p>\n

With Liverpool at Anfield up next for the Hammers, that challenge from the owners is staring Nuno and his team in the face.<\/p>\n

With Man City, Villa and Arsenal among West Ham\u2019s remaining fixtures there will be other chances too.<\/p>\n

Nuno himself was in philosophical mood after the game.<\/p>\n

The Portuguese felt it was a \u2018good performance overall\u2019 but admitted he was \u2018sad about the result because we almost got there\u2019.<\/p>\n

Board\u2019s big challenge to Nuno instantly tested<\/p>\n

\u201cThe chances that we created could have been different, but I\u2019m proud of the way the boys worked,\u201d Nuno told West Ham\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are many things that we are improving and we showed that we are resilient, we were compact, we didn\u2019t allow chances, we had good possessions.\u201d<\/p>\n

West Ham will have to be all those things and more if they are to stand any chance of pulling off a shock result at Anfield next week.<\/p>\n

If they can do that then the point against Bournemouth suddenly looks like a positive result.<\/p>\n
