{"id":439706,"date":"2026-02-22T14:05:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-22T14:05:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/439706\/"},"modified":"2026-02-22T14:05:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-22T14:05:07","slug":"calmacs-newest-ferry-mv-isle-of-islay-arrives-in-scotland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/439706\/","title":{"rendered":"CalMac&#8217;s newest ferry MV Isle of Islay arrives in Scotland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">CalMac&#8217;s chief executive Duncan Mackison said it was &#8220;the start of an exciting new chapter&#8221; for CalMac.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He added: &#8220;The crew, who have been putting the vessel through her paces on an epic voyage across the Mediterranean and North Atlantic in the depths of winter, are delighted to have reached Scotland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;They deserve massive credit for the job they have done in sailing home during treacherous weather and sea conditions and being involved in a CalMac first in saving a life at sea off the coast of Morocco.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Over the next few weeks, we&#8217;ll finalise preparations to get the vessel ready to enter passenger service for Islay and Jura.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The journey from Turkey saw a CalMac-branded vessel pass many places for the first time &#8211; including Greek islands and the coastlines of Italy, Spain, Portugal and Morocco.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop said she was delighted to see the ferry arrive, adding that it would improve capacity and reliability on the Islay route.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"CalMac&#8217;s chief executive Duncan Mackison said it was &#8220;the start of an exciting new chapter&#8221; for CalMac.
