{"id":441076,"date":"2026-02-23T10:38:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T10:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/441076\/"},"modified":"2026-02-23T10:38:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T10:38:08","slug":"swindon-art-project-could-breathe-life-into-run-down-street","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/441076\/","title":{"rendered":"Swindon art project could breathe life into run-down street"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Work on the murals is already underway by Swindon-based artists Caryn Koh, Ed Poster and Dayna Baxter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The design of each artwork was informed by the area&#8217;s history, architectural features and former uses, organisers said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Helen Salter, Artsite&#8217;s public art project manager, grew up in Swindon and recalled memories of &#8220;visiting the toy shop Beattie&#8217;s and the legendary Fleet Street Market&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Working with talented artists and local businesses, the project is community-driven at its heart,&#8221; she added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Leader of Swindon Borough Council Jim Robbins said underinvestment in the area, boarded-up shops and well-known hospitality venues closing down had contributed to the decline of the street.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He said the council was encouraging development of the area and urged landowners to use already-granted planning permissions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We&#8217;re excited to be working with Artsite to brighten up the area and bring a vibrancy to a once-loved area of the town,&#8221; he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Work on the murals is already underway by Swindon-based artists Caryn Koh, Ed Poster and Dayna Baxter.
