{"id":441105,"date":"2026-02-23T11:06:07","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T11:06:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/441105\/"},"modified":"2026-02-23T11:06:07","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T11:06:07","slug":"government-to-announce-billions-in-send-funding-with-overhaul-due-to-be-unveiled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/441105\/","title":{"rendered":"Government to announce billions in SEND funding with overhaul due to be unveiled"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SEND in figures &#8211; and why people say the system needs changepublished at 08:34 GMT<\/p>\n<p>08:34 GMT<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Just over 1.7 million (about one in five) pupils in England&#8217;s schools receive support for special educational needs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">As of January last year, 639,000 young people up to the age of 25 had education, health and care plans (EHCPs) in England &#8211; the number has more than doubled in a decade.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Most of that increase has been driven by a rise in autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnoses.
