Three Liverpool sites have been shortlisted for a major award. The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) hands out prizes for great architecture all across the country.<\/p>\n

This morning, it released the names 10 architectural projects that have been shortlisted for the RIBA North West Awards 2026 and three are located in Liverpool<\/a>. The first is Kempston Street by Studio MUTT, previously a section of the Try and Lilly hat factory<\/a> in the Fabric District<\/a> converted to creative workspace use and the home of Studio MUTT, which is an architecture firm.<\/p>\n

The second is the Isle of Man<\/a> Ferry Terminal by The Manser Practice. Completed in 2024<\/a>, the ferry terminal has been designed to handle 600,000 passengers a year travelling between Liverpool\u2019s Princes Dock<\/a> and the Isle of Man capital, Douglas.<\/p>\n

The third is also by Studio MUTT, located at 170 Albert Dock<\/a>. The former warehouses have also been converted into modern workspaces.<\/p>\n

All projects shortlisted for RIBA Awards will be visited by a regional jury, and the winning projects will be announced later this spring.<\/p>\n

The winners will then be considered for several RIBA North West Special Awards, including the RIBA North West Sustainability Award and RIBA North West Building of the Year, before being considered for a National Award, which will be announced in summer.<\/p>\n

The shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize \u2013 the UK\u2019s best new building \u2013 will be drawn from the RIBA National Award-winning projects and announced in September. The Stirling Prize winner will be announced in October.<\/p>\n

RIBA North West Jury Chair, Pablo Iglesias, Founder of Grated Apple, said: “This year’s shortlist reflects both the depth and breadth of architectural quality across the North West, spanning a wide range of scales, typologies and social contexts.<\/p>\n

“From the sensitive reinvention of heritage assets and civic buildings, to the creation of progressive learning environments and contemporary public realm, the projects demonstrate architecture\u2019s capacity to deliver lasting civic, social and cultural value.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring visits, the jury will be looking closely at how these buildings and public spaces perform in use \u2014 how people inhabit them, interact with them, and how successfully they embed themselves within the life of their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n
