Sony<\/a> has revealed the release date of Marvel\u2019s Wolverine on PS5<\/a>, as it tries not to get too close to GTA<\/a> 6 during the busy Christmas gift-giving season.<\/p>\n The complaints about Sony\u2019s conduct during this generation are not just to do with its lack of first party game releases but also its general lack of communication and engagement with fans. Although the last State of Play<\/a> showcase was a good one, the last several before that were not.<\/p>\n Sony also has an increasing habit of making major announcements via anodyne blog posts on its official website. Today though, they couldn\u2019t even be bothered to do that and revealed the release date of Marvel\u2019s Wolverine<\/a> via a simple post on X and Bluesky.<\/p>\n \u2018Who\u2019s ready for September 15, 2026?\u2019 is all it says, along with a plea to wishlist the game on the PlayStation Store. And execs wonder why people miss the razzamatazz of E3<\/a>.<\/p>\n The lack of fanfare is especially surprising given that Wolverine\u2019s release date has been a subject of much speculation, since Sony has insisted that it is not moving it in order to get out of the way of GTA 6 on November 19.<\/p>\n As could\u2019ve been predicted, Sony wasn\u2019t silly enough to take Rockstar on head-on and have instead opted for a minimum safe distance.<\/p>\n \t\t\t\tExpert, exclusive gaming analysis\t\t\t<\/p>\n Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter<\/a> for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning.<\/p>\n Two months either side of GTA 6 is probably what most other publishers will stick to too, although those with yearly franchises have some very difficult decisions ahead.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n EA Sports FC<\/a> 27 is probably okay, as the last game came out on September 26, but it\u2019s going to be very interesting to see what Activision<\/a> does about Call Of Dut this year, especially as it\u2019s chasing almost exactly the same audience as GTA 6.<\/p>\n Call Of Duty<\/a> games typically launch in either late October or early November, so the question is whether Activision moves out of that window or chooses to take on Rockstar head-to-head.<\/p>\n As for Marvel\u2019s Wolverine, relatively little has been shown of it so far but while it\u2019s by Spider-Man<\/a> developer Insomniac Games it\u2019s considerably more gory than any of their previous titles.<\/p>\n It otherwise seems to play pretty much as you\u2019d imagine and will likely be just as big a hit as Spider-Man 2, although hopefully not as expensive for Sony to make<\/a>, or they may struggle to make a profit from it.<\/p>\n Wolverine was not featured in the most recent State of Play, with Sony indicating that it would get a new preview later in the year, probably as a dedicated showcase.<\/p>\n For the first time in a while, Sony has two big first party titles out this year, with Returnal follow-up Saros due out on April 30.<\/p>\n That was featured in the most recent State of Play so it\u2019s not clear whether it\u2019ll get its own dedicated showcase or not, before release.
