{"id":444707,"date":"2026-02-25T11:41:09","date_gmt":"2026-02-25T11:41:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/444707\/"},"modified":"2026-02-25T11:41:09","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T11:41:09","slug":"how-food-waste-is-helping-hulls-community-gardens-to-grow","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/444707\/","title":{"rendered":"How food waste is helping Hull&#8217;s community gardens to grow"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In addition to the Right to Grow schemes, Hull is home to three <a href=\"https:\/\/friendsoftheearth.uk\/nature\/planting-more-postcode-gardeners-create-greener-streets\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Postcode Gardener projects, external<\/a>, which aim to rejuvenate 1,000 neglected spaces across the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">John Pickles, the representative for Orchard Park, said the council compost deliveries had been &#8220;absolutely invaluable&#8221; to the HOPE Allotment in Sir Henry Cooper Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He said: &#8220;Hull&#8217;s soil is heavy clay, so without adding compost it&#8217;s hard to make the ground workable for growing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;This scheme is a perfect example of recycling coming full circle.
