After We\u2019re All Going to the World\u2019s Fair<\/a> and I Saw the TV Glow<\/a>, film fans know what to expect from writer-director Jane Schoenbrun<\/a>: freaky and surreal yet deeply emotional stories backed by dazzling, often disturbing, visuals. That\u2019s not to suggest Schoenbrun is predictable; as the teaser for their latest, Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, perfectly demonstrates, their works are wildly original\u2014even when, as this new film does, they riff on something as familiar as a summer camp slasher movie.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s definitely some David Cronenberg and David Lynch influence going on there, but also a lot of Schoenbrun\u2019s distinctive style too. Billed as \u201ca new kind of horror remake,\u201d Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma stars Hannah Einbinder (Hacks) and the legendary Gillian Anderson\u2014doing what sounds like a very spooky Southern accent here.<\/p>\n

The movie is also described as \u201ccontinuing a body of work shaped by themes of trans identity and queer horror,\u201d and the plot description is as follows: \u201cAfter years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original movie\u2019s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yes. We will absolutely be injecting all of this directly into our eyeballs come August 7, when Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma hits theaters. Aside from Einbinder and Anderson, the cast also features Amanda Fix,\u00a0Arthur Conti,\u00a0Eva Victor,\u00a0Zach Cherry,\u00a0Sarah Sherman,\u00a0Patrick Fischler,\u00a0Dylan Baker,\u00a0Jasmin Savoy Brown,\u00a0Kevin McDonald,\u00a0Quintessa Swindell,\u00a0and Jack Haven.<\/p>\n
