It turns out that due to their impressively tall height, the world\u2019s tallest mammal often cannot take shelter during bad weather, meaning they have no choice but to handle the stormy conditions head-on.<\/p>\n

But the internet has only just come to this collective realization, and it\u2019s left many deep in their emotions.\u2019<\/p>\n

A\u00a0video\u00a0<\/a>showing a herd of giraffes \u2013 which can grow to as tall as 5.5 meters (550 centimeters) \u2013 standing amid a violent rainstorm in Kenya went viral recently, illustrating the brown and yellow creature\u2019s plight for all to see.<\/p>\n

Experts at Sydney Taronga Zoo have explained that while it appears to be a sad plight for the animals, they are actually perfectly safe weathering storms.<\/p>\n

\u201cStanding is the safest position for a giraffe,\u201d Renae Moss, a Senior Giraffe Keeper at Taronga Zoo, told news.com.au.<\/p>\n

\u201cBecause of their large size and unique body shape, sitting puts them in a vulnerable position since it takes several seconds for them to get back on their feet.<\/p>\n

\u201cSitting in the rain would be even riskier, as the sound of rainfall could mask the approach of predators. In addition, rising from wet, muddy ground would be more difficult and slippery.\u201d<\/p>\n

Giraffes also happen to have in-built thermoregulation to help them navigate the cooler temperatures rain may bring.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe patches on coat are not just for camouflage but have a series blood vessels underneath for thermoregulation,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is amazing that social media is drawing attention to vulnerable species like giraffe, but their biggest threat is not rain.<\/p>\n

\u201cHuman encroachment and habitat loss pose a greater threat to their survival. Without rain giraffes cannot survive as they will lose their food and water source.<\/p>\n

\u201cGiraffes have evolved to survive in these conditions for many years and videos like these are a very anthropomorphic view of giraffe life.\u201d<\/p>\n

But the truth about giraffes being fine to stand in the rain hasn\u2019t stopped the seemingly heart-tugging clip from engaging a strong reaction online, and has since crossed platforms to\u00a0TikTok, where it\u2019s triggered an even deeper reaction.<\/p>\n

One woman, who posts under the handle @missferg, shared a\u00a0video<\/a>\u00a0of herself crying in response to the revelation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just found out that giraffes are too tall and they don\u2019t have anywhere to go when it rains and when it storms,\u201d she said as tears can be seen streaming down her cheeks.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey just have to stand there.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey\u2019re taller than most trees, so they can\u2019t even seek shelter from those. As if being a giraffe wasn\u2019t hard enough.\u201d<\/p>\n

She concludes her video by declaring that \u201cgiraffes don\u2019t bother nobody. They don\u2019t bother nobody\u201d before asking \u201cwho do I need to call?\u201d in order to get the tall animals the shelter they deserve.<\/p>\n

Her video clearly struck a nerve because it\u2019s now been viewed more than 44 million times.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just found out that giraffes are too tall and they don\u2019t have anywhere to go when it rains and when it storms,\u201d the woman said.<\/p>\n

The comments also shared in her heartache, with many expressing their own concern.<\/p>\n

\u201cHow do we send them umbrellas?\u201d one user questioned.<\/p>\n

Another said: \u201cThey are so innocent.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI got a lot of problems, now I\u2019ve got to worry about giraffes during storms,\u201d a third pointed out.<\/p>\n

But others questioned why the woman had become so emotional over the idea of giraffes being rained on.<\/p>\n

\u201cOf all the problems in the world, you choose this one,\u201d one commenter joked.<\/p>\n

Another user commented: \u201cMe when I\u2019m on my period.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s OK because they like to release their inhibitions and feel the rain on their skin,\u201d a third added.<\/p>\n
