{"id":448245,"date":"2026-02-27T09:25:20","date_gmt":"2026-02-27T09:25:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/448245\/"},"modified":"2026-02-27T09:25:20","modified_gmt":"2026-02-27T09:25:20","slug":"wealthy-jersey-islanders-may-have-to-pay-for-medical-travel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/448245\/","title":{"rendered":"Wealthy Jersey islanders may have to pay for medical travel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The plans have been revealed in this week&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.je\/SiteCollectionDocuments\/Health%20and%20wellbeing\/HCJ%20Advisory%20Board%20Part%20A%20Meeting%20Papers%20February%202026.pdf\" class=\"ssrcss-1e0jzsh-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Health and Care Jersey (HCJ) Advisory Board papers, external<\/a>, which are due to be discussed on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">In them, the department said: &#8220;Healthcare costs are rising and HCJ must ensure that finite public funding is used fairly and directed to the Islanders who need care.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Two draft policies and a law drafting instruction have been developed to help ensure resources are used responsibly.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Just over 2,500 Jersey residents were referred to UK hospitals for treatment in 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Health officials said the new policy &#8220;re-introduces the pre-2017 policy of eligibility testing based on household income&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">They also said they expected charges would apply to about 30% of households.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">It has not yet been decided whether higher earners would have to foot the entire bill, or just some of it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The papers said: &#8220;Higher-income households would need to pay for part or all of their travel or accommodation.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"The plans have been revealed in this week&#8217;s Health and Care Jersey (HCJ) Advisory Board papers, external, which&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":448246,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[43],"tags":[102,2960,56,54,55],"class_list":["post-448245","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-healthcare","tag-health","tag-healthcare","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/448245","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=448245"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/448245\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/448246"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=448245"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=448245"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=448245"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
