American YouTuber Trisha Paytas has never shied away from sharing controversial opinions about celebrities on her hugely popular channel. But even she couldn\u2019t have anticipated the furious backlash after she discussed the late One Direction<\/a> star Liam Payne<\/a> on an episode of her podcast, Just Trish.<\/p>\n

The episode\u00a0\u2013 which is still available on Spotify<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 was released on October 8, 2024, eight days before Liam\u2019s tragic death after he fell from a hotel balcony in Argentina.<\/p>\n

Liam\u00a0\u2013 who we now know had been suffering from drink and drug addiction\u00a0\u2013 had been acting erratically during a series of public appearances.<\/p>\n

So, conversation turned towards the troubled star\u00a0\u2013 and his relationship with his ex-bandmates after One Direction\u2019s break-up in 2016.<\/p>\n

\u2018He\u2019s on weird terms with, like, everyone from One Direction,\u2019 opined Trisha\u2019s co-host, comedian Zach Justice. \u2018If there\u2019s no reunion, it\u2019s because of Liam. Because they just don\u2019t want to be around him.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018They need to exile Liam,\u2019 Trisha, 37, replied. \u2018People would be more excited about a reunion if there was no Liam. Their value goes up.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018I don\u2019t know him, I couldn\u2019t tell you one harmony he sings,\u2019 she continued.<\/p>\n

A little over a week later, Liam was dead\u00a0\u2013 and One Direction fans declared Trisha officially \u2018cancelled\u2019 for her insensitive comments.<\/p>\n

Trisha Paytas, who has a hugely popular YouTube channel, angered One Direction fans with her comments about Liam Payne<\/p>\n

So, imagine their surprise now that Trisha has struck up an unlikely friendship with Liam\u2019s former girlfriend of two years, Kate Cassidy.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, while discussing influencer Kate\u2019s numerous social media posts about her late boyfriend, Trisha announced on her podcast: \u2018I love her. She follows me, too.\u2019<\/p>\n

Then, this week, Kate posted a sultry selfie, with the caption: \u2018Yes I\u2019ve seen the Trisha podcast clip and the feeling is mutual.\u2019 Her words were followed by a red heart emoji.<\/p>\n

Naturally, Directioners are stunned\u00a0\u2013 and many have questioned Kate\u2019s motives. After all, the influencer built a huge social media following from her romance with Liam and continues to post tearful videos about her grief more than two years on\u00a0\u2013 which rake in thousands of views.<\/p>\n

One insider tells me: \u2018Kate has spent the last 18 months or so living off of Liam even though he is dead.<\/p>\n

\u2018It has been lucrative for her, and now she has cultivated a friendship with one of Liam\u2019s fiercest critics. Nobody can understand why she has done this. It feels very disrespectful and perhaps is yet further evidence that Kate\u2019s motives may not be straightforward.\u2019<\/p>\n

Indeed, those who knew Liam are \u2018disgusted\u2019 at her lack of loyalty. \u2018Why would anyone do this?\u2019 asked one. \u2018It\u2019s not a very nice way of remembering your boyfriend\u00a0\u2013 Trisha slated him so very publicly.\u2019<\/p>\n

But this is just the latest in a series of incidents that have led many One Direction fans to turn against Kate.<\/p>\n

After Liam\u2019s death, many were furious that she had chosen to leave him alone in Argentina. Kate claims that she had to fly back to their home in Miami to look after their rescue puppy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In her absence, Liam took a cocktail of drugs at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel before he died\u00a0\u2013 a fate some fans claim might have been avoided if she had stayed with him.<\/p>\n

Kate has also found herself the victim of a social media pile-on for her actions in the aftermath of Liam\u2019s death. In October 2025, she shared a selection of haunting, AI-generated images of the couple\u00a0\u2013 pictures which distressed those who knew and loved the singer.<\/p>\n

Nor will fans ever forgive Kate for the interview she gave last year to a red-top newspaper, for which she is thought to have been paid a \u2018high five-figure sum\u2019.<\/p>\n

Then there was the day Kate moved out of the London flat rented by Liam, where she had been living following his death. She was seen looking forlorn in photographs, clutching a soft toy as she watched her suitcases being loaded into a waiting taxi.<\/p>\n

It later emerged that the pictures were likely to have been staged by Kate\u00a0\u2013 and that Liam\u2019s parents Geoff and Karen had politely asked her to leave the property \u2013 a clue that there was no love lost between them.<\/p>\n

Now friends of Liam \u2013 and his loyal fans \u2013 believe that her actions have gone beyond the pale.<\/p>\n
